Any of you guys live on a salmon creek.
« on: May 30, 2014, 06:26:42 AM »
We are just about to move to this house that is right next to a salmon creek. The salmon run from late oct. to dec. I got a 7 month old pup who like to put anything in his mouth. If it fits in his mouth he is gonna pick it up. I don't know, he might just a little young yet but he got me thinking he will be a salmon eater if I don't watch him. My plan is to build him another bullet proof pen at the new house. So he will either be in the house or in his pen. Any of you guys have dogs and live on a salmon creek. What do you guys do to keep your dogs from salmon or is your dog brighter than mine :chuckle:

I don't live on a salmon creek, but I don't see any way to keep your dog from eating fish unless it is locked up.  Even letting it out to go to the bathroom would be a good chance for it to grab a quick snack.

One day when you least expect it your dog will find a nice rotten salmon and roll all in it, then come barging in the house and rub all over everything it can.  :chuckle:

Please refer to this thread as it brought back many memories, not so good ones either!

I think I will just have to keep him in his "prison" for the day and just take him up the road for exercise. Don't wanna chance it.

I don't live on a salmon creek by my gsp ALWAYS found a way to get out if she wanted to bad enough. Even was able to rip a hole in chain link dog run. All this stopped when we put in an underground E fence. Cheap, easy to install, and she learned very fast. Only took one nip and she doesn't even think about going near the fence. I'm sure every dog is different but we are going on 9 months now w/  0 issues.

Seems like salmon poisoning is harder on pups than healthy adult dogs.
I've head of letting dogs feed on salmon when you can watch them for a serious reaction. They live through it and develop immunity. I'd probably consult a vet before trying it though.

He is half lab half German Shepard. WE have a 30ft. by 60ft. "prison that he and our older dog are in for the day. A few holes dug but never gets out. MAYBE, he doesn't think he can escape. I don't worry to much about him getting out of his pen so much as somebody letting him out.
