35 Remington

Anyone have any experience with one of these?  I knew an old boy that killed lots of deer with one years ago and loved it.

I love mine. Had it for 20+years. I bought hornady leveroution (sp) bullets for it. I want to replace the stock for it but can't seem to find anyone who carries them anymore.

I bang-flopped a nice muley buck with mine (Contender pistol).  It's fun to shoot, and I haven't had any trouble finding ammo.

I too have a Contender in this caliber, topped with a cheap 2x scope. The only thing I have hit with it is the gong at the 200yd line 

I "roll my own" ammo so finding ammo is not a problem.

35rem is comparable to a 30-30win. But the 35rem shoots a bit heavier bullets of the slightly larger diameter. Bullets should not be difficult to obtain. It would seem that the 35 is a bit more popular back east than the 30-30 is out west so 35rem factory ammo is not as plentiful here. The 35rem falls into that 'Brush Gun' list of cartridges and is most often chambered in shorter barreled lever action rifles. There is a strong following by users of Contender pistols for both hunting and silhouette competitive shooting.

35 Remington, one of the alltime great deer and blackbear rounds.  It has been chambered in just about every type of rifle.  I have a Rem 760 in 35 Rem topped with a Weaver V-3 scope that I keep back in WI for deer hunting.  Remington has chambered it in the 8/81 Semi Auto, 14/141 Pump, 760 Pump, Rem 600 bolt action, and Model 30 bolt action, I think the Model 7 from the custom shop is also available in 35 Rem.  Marlin made the 336 Lever and Savage the Model 170 pump in 35 R. and I believe the early Model 70 Winchester could be had in 35 Rem.

It has great versatility as you can load .358 pistol bullets, I used 148gr Double Ended Wadcutters over a light charge of powder(load is in the Lyman manual) for squirrel hunting.  200gr RN's at 2000fps make pretty good stopping rounds.

Roy was a good hunter, he was a family friend that come over every hunting season and camped on our place. He was a full blood Cherokee that lived in the Snohomish area, that's where the bear was shot. He was of a quiet serious nature, but if the mood struck and the camp fire was right he would share some experiences. I was to young to hunt with him but he became my hero, he knew the woods as well as my Dad. Roy never went home without his deer. He carried a 35 remington slide action and could shoot it.
    One sunny afternoon Dad and Roy were going out for an evening hunt and allowed me to tag along, we were walking across this big opening with one big old pine tree, there was a magpie sitting in the top, all of a sudden Roy threw up his rifle, boom, the magpie started tumbling through the limbs, boom Dad hit it with the 32 special, boom Roy got it again, boom Dad finished it off before it hit the ground. Neither one of these guys were show off's, just got a funny bug I guess, sure impressed a 10 year old boy.
    I'm not sure but I think bear were like varmints in those days, you could get them any time.

My BinL used to keep a Marlin in 35 Rem at his dads house in Florida for hog hunting.  His dad passed and he had his mom sell the rifle to one of the guys in his dads hunting club.

I run an old remington 141 slide action 35 rem.  It is pretty impressive on anything inside 150 yards.  I also had a contender barrel in 35 rem, that worked pretty well on elk.  All in all it is a great cartridge for brush hunting.

My cousin back in Wisconsin shot a deer with his 35 Rem. Hit it seven out of nine shots, and the deer kept going for another seventy five yards before it fell. Five shots were in the chest area, two were gut shots. Either that round isn't too good or that was one tough deer!! It was a nice buck, maybe he was a tough guy..

I have a Remington 141 pump in 35 Remington and my son hasa Marlin lever-action in 35 Remington and he also has a 35 Remington barrel for his Thompsen Center Encore, We have killed a bunch of deer whith these three guns. It's a good mid-range load and ammo can be found readily if you look for it.

Great Pic! The guy in the pic looks tougher than any bear he would have run across. I have a 35 rem pump my great aunt gave me. She shot a few deer with it back in the day, I need to get it out and see how it shoots.

I have had my 35 rem forty years. Excellent brush gun for the wet side. Light weight and Short. I have a Rem 300. I'll have to take a pic of it. A quick search on goggle came up empty for images. (Not even close.) It is a bolt action with a half rounded bolt to lay flatter to the stock.

Very accurate to 100 yards then drops off fast. But over here on the wet side who needs it to reach beyond that anyways?

Grandpa has a Remington game master in 35 rem. I love pump action rifles

He's bagged some pretty big elk with it
