High hunt help

Never done the high hunts at all. I'm really wanting to go to an area or wilderness where there are a lot of bears and pretty good dear hunting. Planning on an august trip for bear and scouting and of course the high buck hunt in September. I was just wondering if you guys could point the right direction on where to go. I would really like to harvest a bear. I'm not worried about putting on miles, that's the fun part thankyou

What do you mean "know your bears"? Also does anybody know what time to go? When the berries ripe? How far to go back? Not tryin to be a nuisance, just never done it before

occasionally bios are in there tracking for bears and they say they're grizzlies.

no more bears in baker area than any other alpine area in my opinion, just decent access.  If you want to harvest an alpine bear find someplace close enough to home that you can keep going back to every week, watching the berries get ripe and looking for fresh sign, while learning the area and patterns of the bears.

here's my bear from the high hunt this year.  Also If your looking for a rug I would suggest not hunting the back country for one.  They are not fun to pack out of the hills.  I hope your in good shape!

It was just my test run to see hoe the bt1 handled 100+.

Thanks for the info! And nice bear teanawaslayer! So which would be best do you guys think. Alpine lakes, glacier, or the pasayten? And does anybody know of good trailhead to start from?

I don't think there's one that's better than the others. It's mainly just a matter of putting in the time scouting, and finding specific locations within those wilderness areas that hold deer. If you can find them in late July/August, there's a pretty good chance they won't be too far away in September.

Pick up a Washington gazetter and go for it. There are bears all over this state.

How much money you want to spend

My advice is don't camp in the middle of a basin that deer will be in.

Keep an eye on the classifieds...a used Eberlestock might go for around that.  Or maybe a Cabelas Alaskan with frame.  I don't know what the REI packs go for, but might look at those too.
