Why can't I atleast whack a doe yet?
« on: December 08, 2013, 04:22:42 PM »
Been grinding in my stand, I only got a few more weeks to make it happen! Just need the deer to come through my stand sight during daylight! This weekend I couldn't hunt the whole day it was too damn cold to sit all day! Hoping the next weekend it comes through! Anyone else getting discouraged yet?

At least you are getting out, I haven't even designated my tag yet.  If you are just looking for a doe I can point you to a slam dunk whitetail spot.

I went all the way over to the east side to get skunked! Not discouraged though. My lack of success can only be be blamed on my lack of preparation! A lot of guys will say, "Don't beat yourself up!" but I'll say the opposite! If you're not seeing game move your tree-stand. If you know they are there, go in there and get them on foot! Beat yourself up or you'll only have yourself to blame for a lack of success! When you're legs and arms give out from army-crawling all day through the brush to quietly upset a Buck's mid-day nap and you still don't find game, THEN you can blame lack of opportunity...

P.S. Get foot-warmers and hand warmers!!! Put them in your shoes when you go to your stand, take your shoes off and give them air so they'll reactivate a couple ours before the end of the day. Same with hand warmers. Toss a couple in your gloves, pockets, etc... Do whatever it takes to keep your butt in the stand (or army crawling...)

How willing you are to expose yourself to his environment shows how willing you are to get him... My  :twocents:

Oh yeah I know they are there. My game cam says so, just not at legal hours. I think I might go mobile though, especially when the rain picks up again. I'm worried about leaving the stand and kicking myself for it later. Should I just keep waiting them out? Or go still hunting? Thanks for the whitetail invite but it's a bit too far for me this year.

If they are there but not at legal hours, you might be pushing them out by stinking it up or making too much noise.  They might just have you figured out.   :twocents:

Yep, kinda what I'm thinking. Thinking I might go mobile and still hunt my way through the timber. When this cold leaves I will be able to be quiet also. Might sit in the stand for the first couple hours of the morning then start hunting my way in the timber. Should find them in there somewhere. Good gameplan?

Are they showing up just after dark or just before daylight?

I like to still hunt areas more than sitting all day. Seems more successful for me.

The bucks are between 1 to 3 am and the does seem to be mostly 6 to 9pm those are averages. A few odd balls though. I got apple blocks and apples out that I have been baiting since August.
