I was wondering what different kind of bullets you guys use . I'm new to this muzzleloader stuff. I would like to hear about all of the different options.

I use a 400 grain Harvester Hard Cast Lead bullet in a sabot out of my 54.

It makes a pretty brutal wound channel.

I might suggest you look at a Lehigh .500x350 grain bullet in an MMP 50x54 sabot... Awesome

They look something like this...

Oneshot12,  just shot a really nice cow elk with one of these bullets from a 54 cal Remington 700 ML ..

Also Knight offers a .500x325 gr. Bloodline in a 54 cal. sabot.

I shoot patched round balls.  A lot will depend on your barrel, rate of twist and rifling.

you know Jason a couple of people are correct here.  It would really help to know what rifle you are shooting.  I am sure some assumed it was a sidelock since it is a 54 and I on the other hand was assuming it was a more modern type inline...

Jason ,  I shoot  a 54 cal  and use  90 gr  3f powder and a patched round ball  1 in 66 twist  .I also shoot an inline with the 110 gr of powder   and the bullets  sabot loader was referring to  they worked pretty darn good in the 1in 28 twist  inline . one thing for sure is never count out the round ball they work pretty darn well on lots of game    most times it just depends on the shooter  .i am still working on loads for my  in line
with help from some of the folks on here. Best of luck and have fun with it  try a few things and find the one that best fits you needs and use it

I have a question too. I'm thinking about going back to muzzy. I have an old T/C Grey Hawk 54 cal. What do you guys suggest that will shoot out to 150 yards if possible, with the new types of muzzleloaders now ?

I don't want to steal from the OP question, but I thought this would be a good place to start.

Thanks........

Ok, thanks. I just ordered a polymer complete lower for a 204 build I want to do, so the muzzy might have to wait. I'll still ask away.

I decided on using a 450 bushmaster bullet. It is 250gr and will use the Harvester sabot. I just need to get my powder fine tuned.

I use Barnes Expander MZ 325 gr. in my Remington 700ML.  My bull went 25 yards.  Here's a before and after.

The Barns Expander MZ is what I use with 90 grains of RS powered. I have taken both deer and elk with that round. I now shoot .50 inline and use the Barns TMZ with 120grs of powered.

I chose to go with the hornady 450 bushmaster bullet,100grs of triple 7 and harvester sabots. I shot twice and then adjusted my sights, then two more rounds. I was very happy with the way they shot. The bullets are 250gr.
