Can't get any pictures unless it's in the woods

I have pulled most of the cameras I had out for deer and elk, and only have two left in the woods. One is in my elk spot which I'm still hunting, for the next four days. The other I put up on a buck rub abot 4 weeks ago, hoping to catch the buck coming back to freshen it up, even though I missed the peak of the rut.

I just don't like to leave them out too much in the winter except for a very specific purpose. Couple reasons, one is I think the cold and wet weather can be hard on them. Two is I don't want to risk losing one to a thief.

However this is the time to try for pictures of predators- bobcats, cougars, and coyotes. I will probably pull the two I have out for deer and elk within the next week or two. But then I will start putting them back out with bait for predators.

The deer and elk cams will probably go out in mid- May.

I only have one out for deer right now. Pulled my elk cam a week ago. I have three out for bobcats and cougars. Will put out a couple for bear at the end of March/early April.

Well quit laying around and get some more out there!!

This year, for the first time, I'm leaving one out all winter.  I put fresh batteries and a big SD card in it, and will see what happens.  Once it snows, I don't go back so nobody can follow my tracks to the camera.  Not that very many people follow tracks any more...  :chuckle:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

I put most of em out in early spring. April usually. Once I see the bucks dropping antlers. And I'll leave one or two out all year long just to get a few cool all season pics. That and it's nice to see what the movement of area animals are.

Mine are out, too.  I will leave them up all winter long.  We cannot get into the woods until about May or June because of the blowdowns.  I am really looking forward to the wintertime pictures.

Thieves are absolutely the last thing I worry about there.
