Leave it alone, take it out once a year and shoot, think about yer Dad. Try the long shot with it.

that's a good idea it's the same way I got mine and the first deer I killed was with my old 98...

have to agree! Its just a thing, the values is in the memories of it belonging and being used by your dad..i have several rifles with huge sentimental value, and will never be reworked and changed! the 2 i had rebarrelled by Shaw ( a 257 bob and a 257 bob ackley) had zero sentimental value..just tools.:)

It shoots well enough to just leave alone. And certainly can take the knocks of hunting.
I had just been considering doing something else with it. I have other rifles/shotguns of his that were hand me downs as well, but not necessarily project guns.
