Recomended Red dot sight
« on: December 13, 2013, 06:55:55 PM »
I'm wondering what a good economical red dot sight would be to put on my AR 15 .223 with 16" barrel. I would love to put an Eotech on it but I can't afford that right now. Any suggestions on brand that is not a cheap POS? Maybe around $200.00 give or take a little.

I have the Vortex Strikefire on my AR.
I really like it and would be comfortable recommending it.

I have the Burris AR-332 which is 3x red dot
http://www.burrisoptics.com/ar332.html

I'm not terribly fond of the crosshair system

I was hitting p-dogs very well with it though at ~100 yards ish.

What I really liked was how well it works in low light.

It's a bit north of $200 bucks - just to toss out some options.

Strikefire beats your budget, but the Lucid may be more solid for a bit more cash.

One I hadn't seen mentioned is the Bushnell TRS25.  Generally a very well thought of red dot and is the cheapest of the bunch.

Definitely worth a look, any of the three.

It seems there is a big gap between the cheapo Barska stuff and the Aimpoints, Eotech, etc.. Vortex has a couple of options.  Looked at the Vortex strikefire and found the dot to be too big/fuzzy for longer shots.  The Vortex Sparc may be a good option.

Eotech is running a $60 rebate until the end of the month.  Grabagun has the 512.a65 for $369 so $309 after rebate.  A little over your stated range but it's great sight.   The 65 moa ring gets you on target fast, 1moa dot is crisp and precise for longer shots, takes plain old AA batteries.  It's the one I ended up with and am happy so far.

Ths strikefire dot can be dimmed to a fine point.
On full lumination it is big and fuzzy.
