A day with friends on the Big C
« on: January 18, 2015, 02:50:19 PM »
We did a run over to the east side on Saturday and did alright.  Not the amount of redheads & Cans I was hoping to see but we got a good assortment of birds.  The one group of 4  redheads that came through, there were 3 hen's and a drake.  As would be expected 3 of the 4 of us targeted the drake (I have to admit I got tunnel vision on that one bird).  That one bird didn't have much of a chance.  We never saw any Cans.  Good day regardless!

Congrats. Looks like a good time.
The reason you stated everyone shooting at 1 drake Redhead is the reason we always take turns in my boat/blind. No sense at all destroying a couple birds when 1 or 2 guys can shoot them.

Looks like a fun hunt.  One week left to get it done.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Well, I thought I'd share a journey the lone redhead from this hunt is going through.  When it's all done he will be on display in my house for everyone to enjoy for years to come.

The first picture is after he was skinned out (man this bird was fat).  The 2nd and 3rd pictures are after a form is in place and he is attached to a base and all pinned up for drying.  After drying I'll do some finishing touches on him and add a little vegetation to the end of the driftwood and it'll be complete.  I'll add a picture of the end product once done.

Goldeneye that mount is incredible. Im going to try to mount my first birds here soon and love seeing photos like this.
The deer are exactly where you find them, and no where you dont!
