Sturgeon 11/8/08
« on: November 08, 2008, 02:53:39 PM »
Me and a couple buddies headed down to the Kalama area today to try for Sturgeon. We got to the launch about 7am and the wind was blowing pretty bad. We went down and got anchored up though, and we were pretty protected from the wind. We started getting some light bites right away, and after not very long we had a couple shakers to the boat. I was getting bit the whole time the other two were catching the two shakers, but every time I would touch the rod, it would go away. Finally my rod starts getting a better bite, and I finally hook up. Got him to the surface, and we didn't think he was all that big, but figured we better take a measurement. To my surprise, he went 43". He was pretty skinny, but my freezer is lacking in the Sturgeon department, so on the rope he went. We ended up catching one more shaker before the wind completely blew us off the water. Not bad for a short day out on the water.

Yep, and I'm going to cook a piece of it right now...

Forgot to mention...the shakers were caught on Smelt and the keeper was caught on Squid.
