i have a confession
« on: December 17, 2013, 10:01:23 AM »
I missed a deer on Saturday :bash:  long shot range finder said 60 yards but I thought that looks like a long 60 to me.  I put 60 pin right on her and let it go watched as arrow as it just fell short.  Found my arrow no blood clean miss it was laying right in the bed where she was standing.  I had my cousin walk back to where I shot from used range finder again this time it said 72 yards I guess I must have picked up some brush the first time I ranged the deer.  I'm blaming this one on Bushnell.

We all get excited in some way when the shot opportunity is there. Tough to ignore the range distance you want to see when the adrenaline is pumping...

If I never made mistakes I would be twice as dumb as my "friends" tell me I am  :chuckle:

Wait what???? You have a $2000.00 dollar bow, $500.00 dollar sight, $200.00 dollar string, $200.00 dollar release, goldshafted titanium tipped arrows,  the latest and greatest camo just like some tv huntard and makeup.....but use a $50.00 dollar rangefinder.... :dunno: :bash: :chuckle:

Some people would say that you should be able to know the range without one...I am definately not one of those guys. I have to use one if it gets outside of 35

Shooting way way way to far.....probably was using lighted nocks.....probably way to close to shooting hours being over.....probably rushed the shot......probably didn't have elbow up either.

Dude .. curve of the earth divided by 2 x pi(3.14) accurate point of aim . Say 150 yards hold 100 yard pin on target see where 40 pin is hold 100 pin where forty was thus adding 10 yards for deceleration and arrow drag . Impact point in the pocket = dead deer !

What is the longest bow kill people have done or witnessed?  I saw a friend take one at 73 yards, punch it right it vitals.  I personally could not take it but this guy shoots daily and is good.  Let's don't get into the ethics converstaion, that has been beaten to death on other threads.

Better luck next time Mr D Rock. I always push the rangefinder button 2 - 3 times just in case. easy to hit a branch etc and get a wrong reading. One of my buddies had that happen while we were all camped in the Nile. He was off by 14yds and shot over the cows back.

the insanity at 70 lbs and 30 inch pushes my 420 grain arrow 322fps and the cpxl is 310, the experience wash like 314. real world speeds through the chrono. my buddys  carbon matrix shot his arrow 277 at 60lbs and the 60lb insanity was 301.

Dude .. cure of the earth divided by 2 x pi(3.14) accurate point of aim . Say 150 yards hold 100 yard pin on target see where 40 pin is hold 100 pin where forty was thus adding 10 yards for deceleration and arrow drag . Impact point in the pocket = dead deer !

Don't worry about it D-Rock.  If all of us on here were to confess to all of our misses, then there'd be no one left to look up to that was perfect.  I missed 3 different bulls in one day one time in Idaho.... not many can say that!  (But I've got great excuses/reasons for all 3.  :chuckle: )

I can't do it and here is the honest reason why.  I shoot a ton of archery shoots throughout the year and I've seen more bowtechs leave the course broken than any other bow company I have price of mind my hoyt will finish the job and that means everything to me.  I've had broken bows in the past on hunting trips (back in my high country archery days) it sucks.

We have done a ton of 3D shoots over the last 20 years. There used to be a good shoot by MT Clemons archery club called pine creek. They had a novelty shoot that was an antelope at 124 yds with a black dot on it. My wife won it almost everytime. The bottom of her sight was perfect for the shot.

I watched her head shoot a deer that was peaking out from behind a stump at exactly 124 yds. I almost fell over.

I know you will say SURE or not ethical.
Not a shot that would be taken lightly. The only availabe shot was the head shot. It would either be a hit or a miss. Also witnessed by three others

What is the longest bow kill people have done or witnessed?  I saw a friend take one at 73 yards, punch it right it vitals.  I personally could not take it but this guy shoots daily and is good.  Let's don't get into the ethics converstaion, that has been beaten to death on other threads.

Lots of deer and elk have been seen running around with an arrow sticking out of their head because of someone thinking it was a "hit or miss shot".I just dont want to see some new bowhunter read about head shots being hit or miss and think it is ok .

Agreed, It is not something I would like to see most bowhunters try. Most are not effective to over 40 yds. It was over 20 years ago.  And not repeated. But was a good shot. She actually said she was going to hit it in the neck at the base of the skull. That is exactly where she hit it. Breaking the neck and cutting the jugular.

A lot of guys and gals practice out to 150 yards. Makes your standard 40 yarders that much easier. With the equipment these days, in the right situations, 100 yard shots can easily be lethal with proper training.
