Best rifle slings?

I'm in need of a rifle along to mount on a custom 7mm Mag... Am interested in the limbsaver Kodiak Sling (has handle and supposedly does not slip). Any advice here? Would like a lighter weight sling of course but durable is also a big plus. Thanks in advance.

I'm using the Limbsaver with the built in grip and love it best sling ever.

I quit using a sling about 10 years ago.  Nothing worse then having a elk pop up in front of you and your trying to get your gun off your shoulder before it runs.  I do carry a sling in my pack made out of 550 cord, for after I harvest an animal.  Doubles as 40ft of rope.

I quit using one as well.  It squeaks and I found a system to put on my pack once I have an animal down.

I'm suprized no one has said safari sling,thats what I use,works great you can use your bino's and you don't have to ''get your gun off your shoulder'' it's ready to go.

I have a friend that uses that setup, he likes it but it doesn't really fit into my hunting style.

Though marketed as a "tactical" sling, I have been using VTAC slings on hunting rigs and like them a lot.  You can cinch the rifle tight against your back leaving both hands free and the little "ripcord" is easily accessible at chest level. Give it a tug while pushing on the rifle and you immediately have enough slack to shoulder it.  Light weight too.

Magpul MS3.  Its kinda tacticool but I really like being able to switch from traditional carry over the shoulder to 1 point carry by switching the clips around, then the gun is across the chest so its much quicker to shoulder.

I also use "The Claw" inexpensive and the best part, it stays on your shoulder. My next vote would be a safari sling.

I've had Butler creek flex slings on my rifles for years. They last OK and are comfortable.  I have a short 1" leather sling on one of my lever guns just so I can cut a notch in it every time it kills a deer. (  I have a standard military issue leather one on another lever gun. My son has a wide Cabela's sling that grips the shoulder really well. Other son likes his Butler creek slings..
 
I agree with many about not using a sling at all, but reality is that it is quite safe to have the rifle slung when you're walking through/by camps with people in them. When I leave camp in the morning I'm usually still eating breakfast, a banana, toast, whatever, in the dark, and I like my hands free. Once I get into the hunt area, you won't see my rifle slung at all.

The safari sling for me I have one on my A-boltII and my Bighorn i especially like it on my bighorn because the barrel sticks out so far past the fore stock that a conventional sling will not balance. I would get the standard one because the camo one does not have the rubber grip strips that regular one has.

FF4607 uses the Safari sling, and he likes it a lot. I like a regular old leather sling. I like simple things that work.

I have Claw slings on most of my rifles and like them.
Remember that info-mercial with the dead pan face guy pimping his brand of slings.  I can't for the life of me remember what they were called but a buddy of mine swore by them.  They were pretty spendy though.

i use the safari sling as well, we had them in the service, until then i had never seen one, it made packing the m203 alot easier, it translated to my rifle very well, it always keeps the business in the right direction, its easy to keep hanging on your side if you talkn with someone, and it hangs perfect across your belly if you glassin, it really cuts down on the movement from glassing to bringing your rifle up. it is the best sling a person buy for a novice hunter, much much safer

 I've got Safari Slings on 5 of my hunting rifles. I hunt timber almost exclusively for elk and I can honestly say that if it weren't for my Safari Sling I probably wouldn't have gotten a shot on 3 out of my last 5 elk. I had one bust out in front of us at 15 yds as we moved side by side down a ridgeline. He was bedded down and waited us out like a blacktail but when he took off he was at full speed. I got a shot into him before he made it 25 yds and around the corner. My buddy couldn't believe I could get him so quickly but he's using Safari Slings now too. I wouldn't suggest using them on wood stocks unless you want to get into the refinish end of it. The straps wear the finish away after awhile. Composites are great.
