Bear claws?
« on: December 18, 2013, 11:17:45 AM »
I have 4 bear paws in the freezer from a couple years ago and want to remove the claws. I imagine I would just skin the toes back and cut the claws at the joint? I would like to use them for craft making like necklaces and such or for adorning leather goods. Is there something I need to do to the claws to treat them or preserve them to make them last and look good? Any advice from someone knowledge would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have done many claws. Just skin them back, disjoint, scrape and clean and craft away.  I have an ongoing necklace that has bear claws, badger claws, elk ivories, my best friends dads gold tooth ( he is passed away but kept his teeth that fell out in a jar) and many cool beads and other cool things i find in the woods.

That's what i was thinking. I have some elk ivory, bear teeth, claws and beads also. I guess you could also lacquer the claws after cleaning them up? Thanks for the tips.

P.S. I was thinking I might hit one with some pink nail polish for my little girl she would love it :chuckle:

It's not a Mississippi bear claw, is it?  I wouldn't have any part of one of those. :hello:

I thought this discussion was about apple fritters.

You are considering a bear claw and an apple fritter one and the same?

Pilgrim!!!!!!!

By the way...I think billythekidrock may have a sticky thread in top of the bear section.
