Three Packs in Western Washington?

Saw something on the local news a week ago maybe more with regards to some wolf related meeting in seattle...they interviewed a wolf advocate who stated that there were "only 3 packs established in western Washington"....this was news to me, or is he maybe f.o.s.

Wouldn't break my heart.  Just that much closer to delisting.

Unfortunately, from the established side, not that the WDFW has formerly recognized as so.  But they cannot seem to recognize an established pack if it was holed up in the back yard of the Governor's abode.

All kinds of things get said at those Seattle wolf meetings, sometimes they are even true.

Although it doesn't fit the narrative here, my impression is that most of those wildlife managers know that a lot of urban advocates - at least the ones who have always lived in a major metropolitan area, don't know crap about the wolf issue. They'll use their support when it suits them, but you can almost see the eye rolls when they get off stage. Wolves bring out oddballs that don't give a crap about any other wildlife/land management issues. Some group offers a Van Pool, a few snacks or maybe a beer then boom; they appear at a wolf meeting, utter a few talking points and that's that.

The guy that I was standing next to at the last wolf meeting was wearing a fake wolf tail and a hat with fake wolf ears, for goodness sake.

I think the "only three packs in western Washington"  bit is a reference to the REQUIREMENT for delisting in the WA Wolf Plan whether the person who said it realized it or not. She may have improperly memorized her talking points

Let's hear the rest of this story. Kitsap county has a fair amount of people in it anymore. Outside of the watershed and some timber company land, I would suspect this would be tough to keep quiet. There are not that many deer and elk in the watershed from what I have heard over the last several years. With the timber company talking fees for access it would decrease the number of deer taken by hunting creating a longer lasting food source for them. This could get good when the pack gets hungry though.

Sure it wasn't Kittitas or Klickatat? Kittatas is known, but Klickatat would make sense compared to Kitsap.

To be honest he didn't say a lot. One of my buddies who hunts Idaho a lot, and has seen wolves down there and knows what there tracks look like is a buddy with the guy (retired warden). I don't know the retired warden too well. Ive met him a few times...one day during the summer while on a job site My buddy and the warden came by to BS with me, they go coyote hunting every Wednesday out there, and he came across a track which was a wolf track. The warden said it was just a big coyote but my buddy knew differently. The warden tried to keep it a secret and eventually confessed to it. I believe my buddy. But the story is kind of fishy, but how I told it is how it was. There are plenty of deer out there, more than most think. Elk? Ive never heard of elk out there.
And im positive it was Kitsap.
