I'm not sure that plan would leave room for the early muzzleloader deer season. Unless they made the deer season the same as elk, like it used to be.

Bob, OK w/me where they would overlap.  ML deer this year started on the 28th of Sept.  So, it might only be a day or two that they would overlap anyways.  BTW, I think they should also open more eastside units during archery elk to spread out the hunters.  Also, not a lot of Deer in the areas that I archery hunt for elk.  That being said, they do seem to be making a comeback of sorts.  We've been seeing a few more deer every year for past several seasons during early archery elk season.

Yep, 2014 looks great!    :IBCOOL:

But a week earlier would be even better!

2014 season dates suck :bash:  At least for someone wanting to call a bull in.

Looks like a good year to go out of state and put in for an eastside muzzleloader tag.

Called in two bulls on the opener last year with your calls Jason. It can be done, people just need to learn what the bulls want to hear. One of them already had 15+ cows with him and was raking trees all day.

I agree it can be done, but "most" of the time things don't click until around the 10th or 11th.

:yeah: besides that being the exception not the rule it's like 80 degrees out which can make it tough to get the meat out.used to backpack in for elk every year had to stop,to much risk of meat loss.

My brother and I called in two spikes the same day hunting different areas and both came in silent though. And I also called in a cow that same day which I killed. All sep 5. This past season. No noise from them though. All silent. Didn't even hear a bugle this year. The first bull I killed a few years ago was on the 8th of sep. bulged coming in but was still in a bachelor heard of 4 bulls. Could have killed any of them. But noticed after archery season ends the rut really seams to pick up the later half of September.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

If you draw multi-season, Archery and ML would be better time periods for the rut.

I agree with most that the season is starting to early & it would be nice to have early deer opener then have a week or so for early elk opener...I also think a week or so later allows for cooler temps...

I like the idea of the sep 8-21 or open for entire month like deer would be even cooler...
