Single Pins
« on: December 19, 2013, 06:43:07 PM »
My eyes are not the best so thinking it might be a good alternative to my five pin.

Does anyone shoot a single pin sight? I am concerned about broad head/field point flight differences after having to set yardages.

Always carry a flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake

I've hunted with a single pin for the past 15 years, but I made a commitment long ago to shorten my distances and only shoot 35 yards and under.  My bow shoots a inch or two high at close range and an inch or two low at 35, So one pin suits me just fine.

I agree. 40 yards is my max and even then it has to be perfect. Which single do you have, if you don't mind me asking? Did you sight it in with broad heads?

If you are planning on 40 yards, I personally would use three pins......30yd pin dead center of the pin guard.  Now if I were to only hunt from a stand, I would use a single fixed pin sight.  Determine yardages for your setup and use a 6 o'clock hold close, a center shot dead on yardage, and a 12 o"clock hold for the longest.

But....sounds like you are talking an adjustable single pin.  A sight is a sight.....use your bubble for quick reference and the bow shoots the same regardless of sight.  DOesnt matter what point is on the arrow so long as the bow is tuned properly.

And...I would think inside of 40 yards youd play hell ranging, then adjusting a sight on a full alert animal when mere seconds count.

The problem is I have a really hard time focusing on any pin other than the top one (awesome eyesight genetics).

But you're right any significant movement that close is pretty much a sure fire way to spook game. Maybe I'll try bigger pins on my current set up and see if that helps

a buddy of mine shoots a fixed single pin sight.......he even shoots really good at long distance with it.....how? idk lots of time behind the bow I guess, but he was hitting the 3d deer in the kill zone consistently at 80yards  :yike: when we were practicing together this summer. I myself will stick to multiple pins  :)
