.375 barrel length ?

so lets say you where going to build a .375 hh  to shoot out to 300 yards. what barrel length would you choose?

Factory loads I would use a standard 24", but handloading with the right powders, a 26 can get you a substail velocity boost an more range. But for 300 yards, yes, 24"

Shot a .375 H&H for 6 years or so, took Mulies, bulls, cows and bear with it. All with the acceptation of one were shot with handloads using the 300gr Hornady BTSP. I took one bear with a 270gr Hornady. My rifle was a Remington 700 Classic with a 26" barrel and a Magna-Port brake. Once the .375 Ultra Magnum hit the streets I switched over to it and the 260 Ballistic Tip, once the 260 Accubond arrived I went with it and it has been a stone cold killer combo. Even out past 600yards, it flat CRUSHES animals.

Seeing the new powders available 24" would be a great length and I wouldn't hesitate to go 22" if you are hand loading. It would make for a handy, quick shouldering/ swinging rifle with plenty of horse power to boot.

Just to be different, 20".

I love short, handy weapons. The velocity difference between a 24 and 20" barrel won't make a bit of difference at 300 yards. My 375 Ruger has a 20" barrel and slings 260gr Accubonds at just over 2750 with a pretty mild load of H4350. It has the trajectory of a 180gr 30-06 load so 300 yard hits are very easy!

I was ready to build a 416 Taylor until the 375 Ruger came out. Now I need to come up with an excuse to get a 416 Ruger. With a 20" barrel.

I think 24" is a good length with the 375's. I have been looking at the 375 ruger with a 24" barrel myself.
