PYGMY, what did you do to your bear skull? is it dipped looks really cool I'd love to know.

I used Sculpt Nouveaux's bronze metal to cover it.  Real metal.

Here's another site doing the same thing.  This site was the reason I tried it myself.  I applied too much patina on the bear :o.  Doing this year's raghorn 3 pt bull elk in copper with green patina currently - trying to get better at it.

pygmy, I called the swimming pool company and they don't ship this stuff so I stopped by Aqua quip and found it, Kinda spendy $30.00 a gallon but it's local and available.

I use Salon Care Professional 50 Volume Creme I bought at the local beauty supply place down the street.  They said they weren't supposed to sell it to me unless I had a beautician license, but I told them what it was for (and promised I wouldn't use it on anyone's head) and they let me buy two 32 oz bottles.  I've done 6 skulls with it, and it looks like I still have enough left for a couple more.
I like it because it's more like goop than liquid and when you pour it on, it stays and doesn't run off.

hey pathfinder- my understanding is the cream developer does not work unless you mix it with the bleach powder basic white to form a paste then brush it on?

We usually have about 1000 gallons of 35% peroxide on hand all the time where I work. Nasty stuff on the skin for sure!

Not true.  You do not have to use the basic white.  I myself just use flour to thicken it up so it will stay in place.

Not true.  You do not have to use the basic white.  I myself just use flour to thicken it up so it will stay in place.

The stuff I posted comes in a form slightly thicker than liquid (think pancake batter).  I put the skull in a plastic tub, pour it over the forehead and up inside the nose cavity, then use a small paintbrush to spread it into all the nooks and crannies.  Let it sit for a few hours, then take it out, rinse it off and let sit in direct sunlight until it dries fully. 
I don't use "bleach" anything.  I made a whitening mix years ago when I first started doing euro mounts that used some bleach... those two skulls I treated with it are falling apart in flakes as they hang...  never again... :bdid:
