Why is Cresent Lake out of Monroe closed?
« on: December 12, 2013, 06:32:15 PM »
I swung by Cresent Lake tonight on the way home from work to check it out and there was closed signs at the access areas posted by WDFW. Anybody know why?

Baiting.   There's a cleanup going on Saturday so it can be opened up again.  They're looking for volunteers.

Here's what I read:

Greetings Volunteer Members,

Early this week the Crescent Lake Wildlife Area was closed to hunting until further notice. Law Enforcement determined that a number of baiting violations and activities are present and the Unit needs to close until the area is cleaned up. I have prepared a cleanup plan to remove downed corn from specific areas in an effort to reopen the Unit for hunting.

I am calling on volunteers to assist with a corn pickup this coming Saturday [December 14, 2013] at either parking area starting around 8:00. Bring a pitch fork, rake, shovel, containers to haul corn and your boots if you would like to join in this event. The farmer leasing the fields has donated a small loader and operator to assist with the effort as well. The sooner we get the area cleaned up the sooner we can reopen it for the rest of the season.

Please think this over and spread to your friends as I can use a lot of help on this effort. Please have folks email or call me so we know how much help to expect.

Your assistance with this is very much appreciated.

That makes sense now because I walked out into the field and saw a bunch of waterfowl feeding on something. Did someone go there and push down a bunch of corn or something else?

My buddies were heading there this morning until they realized it was closed. Are there any other public hunting areas near Crescent Lake that are open?

I hope that they open it again soon.  Now that they’ve stopped delivering free meals to the coyotes 3 times a week I’d like to get out there and kill a couple of them.

Cut and Paste below:

Greetings All,

On Saturday approximately 20 volunteers and DFW staff showed up to pick up the corn that was scattered about in numerous baiting areas at the Crescent Lake Unit. We have passed the cleanup requirement and are currently in a 10-day waiting period. The Unit will reopen for waterfowl hunting on 12/24/2013 unless further incidences are discovered.

A whopper of a thank you goes out to all who participated.

Respectfully;

Brian Boehm

Was the corn grown there? Or did someone dump off corn stalks to bring in the birds?

It was standing corn that was stomped down and the corn opened and spread.

I give it a week being open and the same thing will happen again and it gets shut down.

The WDFW planted also corn this year in Cherry Valley, harvested whole bunch and left some standing .....don't know why . They have worked on the canals ,bridges for at least 2 years I think ..... anyhow ,there is hardly any ducks in there anyway because they all stay on the farm lands and hunting club property .I was there several times and nothing going on other than ton of people .
Everyone thinks that I'm freak ,I don't look different do I ?
