Montana Deer Hunting
«
on:
November 10, 2008, 09:04:10 AM »
Well...this weekend I hunted some small private stuff that is surrounded by bigger private stuff...and a few state sections and little isoloted BLM chunks. With the rut getting going good, its just a matter of time before a good buck stumbles onto private!
A BUNCH of these pics are simply out the truck window as I"m driving through private on county roads... but a few aren't... the hunting was great. I devoted myself to the bow this weekend and there was a time or two I wish I'd had the 06'...I"ll probably go back with the 06' in 2 weeks...
LOTS of these guys...they were a dime a dozen. I came close to several, but right now I am about a 30 yard shooter with the LB...and just didn't quite get to where I needed on some of them...
nutha
Most the pics are far enough that I had to do some serious cropping...wish I had the big lens on this hunt Doug...
He looks yummy! Big bodied...not too hold...mmmmm

This guy came REAL close to dying...got into about 30 yards but couldnt get a clear shot..
Then this little punk came in and started sparring with him...I wielded the cam instead of the bow and still didn't get a good shot!
Here's another that tested my ethical fortitude...stood there and taunted me about 20 yards over a private boundary!! aaaargh
This guy had a massive pedicle injury at some point...
If he can survive 2-4 more years he may be intersting.

This guy was bedded where I could not stalk to within 50 yards of him... so I just enjoyed taking his pics...
Narrow...but tall... Id take him...
This guy gave me the slip very easily... I had about 5-6 bucks like this "give me the slip"... Thats what its all about I guess...
a buddy stalked this one... but some does that were bedded below him spotted him and ruined everything!
It was sad watching this guy disappear over a ridge... heading towards a safehaven...

The Rut was ON
The bigger boys weren't too stupid yet...some of the smaller guys were though. I dont think any does were really in yet, but it wont be long...and when they do...the big boys will come out of the woodwork..
I stalked this guy a couple times...but frankly...I suck....
Big 2..no mass...but dang deep!
This is a good track... overall, with Dews, hes about 5 inches long..
And this is the dude that made it...1st buck I saw this weekend.. that sorta got my blood pumping for the rest of the weekend!!
He gave me the slip after I took about 20 shots of him. Thats another that would be phenomenal if Doug had his good glass there... The colors and light were great, but the little PAS just didn't get the job done!
Zoomed in on him... Id take him!

Another Angle or two...yeah...he'd work..
Want to come to Montana again Doug??
Here's another couple big boys that I couldn't get on...they were both on private... forgive the pic quality...just zoomed in looks to give you an idea of how nice they are.. Ye old spottinscope trick...
This one carried his mass out nicely...was probably the best buck I saw all weekend... about 1/3 mile from public land!
OK...a few more later...gotta do some painting...

Nice pics Thanks. Looks like the shows on TV as far as deer numbers. Exciting to think about hunting property like that. Stick with the bow, you'll appreciate it better. (unless rifle season only) Have fun. Mike

Terrific pictures, you lucked out. It was so cold when I hunted over there last year, my camera would not work 50% of the time. Thanks for sharing.
