PSE Phenom
« on: December 23, 2013, 09:44:11 PM »
Just pulled the trigger on a new PSE Phenom. I've always shot compound with fingers but I purchased a RER Take down recurve this year so I figure if I'm going to shoot a compound I might as well shoot a release and if I'm hunting with the recurve I will still be able to shoot fingers. At 36" axle to axle it should be a good compromise and easy to shoot with a release.

I bought it with the skull camo LH 70#. I'm thinking of shooting a whisker biscuit rest and I've got to get a new sight...then figure out which Gold Tips to shoot and get it tuned in!

It's been 12 years since I've gotten a news compound so this should be interesting getting it tuned in! I'll post some pics when it comes in.

How much did you pay for your bow.???

A wisker biscuit????? Seriously. New car and used or substandard tires sound right.????$800.00 bow and a $40.00 rest. May want to re-think that option. Just saying, you will group better with a better rest.

I payed $650.

I like the idea of no moving parts on the rest so I don't like the idea of a drop away and that's why I was leaning towards the biscuit rest.

I am way out of date on my compounds as stated above I have been shooting fingers with an older PSE Dakota with a flipper rest for the last 13 years or so. Now I'm going to a release and need to set up bow with a rest, small stabilizer and buy a release.

Any advice on what anyone would recommend based on their experiences on the rest and release would be helpful. Thanks!

Just double checked and I paid $699 not $650.

I like the specs of the phenom. Havent shot a new one yet but it would take a lot to make me buy one because I like my vendetta xl a ton.
I second the better rest than wb. Get a good fall away and be done with it... trophy taker or qad or rip cord are good.

I pulled the trigger and brought home a new phenom today! I had it ordered not sure if I was going to buy it. But I ended up liking it. Feels good to shoot a new bow... its been 4 years since I got a new one. I havent chronoed it yet but feels as fast as my vendetta. Its weird the axle to axle is an inch longer than the vxl but the bow overall is shorter because the cams arent as big. Ill report back after I shoot it some more.

Lot of good proven drop away rests out there. Bow will tune better also.

Nice!

Nothing wrong with a hairy hole.  If you think you might be shooting fingers with it I'd rather have a Hole than a typical fallaway.  You could compromise and go with a shaven hairy hole.  I rarely travel far from home with anything other than a Hostage Pro.  Though with fingers your probably going to use something other than Blazers and that does limit the life of your vanes if shooting through Brundle hairs.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
