New puppy.
« on: December 23, 2013, 12:42:41 AM »
So after loosing our two wirehaired pointer's to parvo about 6 months ago. We have finnaly decided to buy our two year old daughter a brittany spaniel. So I bleached everything in the house for the second time and also bleached the whole yard just to make sure all the parvo virus was gone. Pickrd up the new pup last weekend. 8week old female. My daughter is loving it. So here is a picture of my daughter and her new best friend sage.

Sorry for your loss. Were you able to figure out how the two dogs got parvovirus?

We think the two pups had parvo before we even got them. They started showing symptoms about two days after wr go them. So we learned our lesson and will only buy pups from a breeder from here on out.

Word of advice, contact your vets office and tell them you have lost 2 pups to parvo on your property, inform them that you have a new pup and ask about extra safety protocols in vaccinating that can be done,I'd ask for the vet to call you back so you can get it straight from the horses mouth so to speak.I'd opt for an extra shot as a safety precaution. Many places in the country people vaccinate double what we do here do to endemics in those locales. The guy I got some pups from in kansas sticks em with shots at 4,6,8,and 10 weeks if they are still on his property at that time.He lost a litter to parvo once and it changed his whole game.Texas is the same, they vaccinate alot, has something to do with the warm weather being the optimum breeding ground for the viruses.Make an appointment and keep it.Good luck with the little buggar, pretty cute little critter.

We contacted the vet before we even got the pup and they told me to throw away everything the pups used then bleach everything including the floor and the yard. So we have bleached everything twice. Also the pup is about 8 weeks old and has had two sets of shots already and gets another round in a couple weeks. So the vet said as long as the new puppy has had atleast a couople sets of shots and its been atleast 6 months since the last pupps had it and we bleach everything it should be ok. So that's what we did.
