3D Shoot Timing
« on: December 27, 2013, 09:30:55 PM »
Being an avid outdoorsman, I hunt about everything and waterfowl season runs thru the last weekend of Jan. Jan is even some  of the best times to be out there for northern birds.
To those of you that do the scheduling for the archery shoots at your club, if possible, start them off the first weekend in Feb please. I enjoy shooting these but will probably not give up a great weekend of duck/goose hunting.   My:twocents:

Here's the problem  when we set the club shoots we try not to step on each others toes and if we take away a month of shooting it would be hard for clubs to schedule shoots that don't overlap withother local clubs.

Not an avid 3-D shooter but looking at all the different schedules for shoots seems there is always one going on in the state somewhere? :twocents:

Hey D Rock, I totally understand the scheduling problems associated with tournaments. With 20+ yrs on the board of directors at various gun/bow/fishing clubs and still going, I totally understand.
What I'm referring to is, ie: Skookum - 3D in Jan(waterfowl season) and paper shoot in Feb(no hunting) last year. I see this all the time. Even in the early fall hunting season. Most of your 3D archers hunt, many of the paper shooters do not. That's all I'm saying ol buddy.

The WSAA convention in October is where most of this is decided. I can tell you from putting on lots of 3d's over the years at Silver Arrow Bowmen that we get better attendance in Jan, Feb March, than later in the year when the weather is nicer. Sako you and i are the minority in the archery world. MOST archers are not avid bird hunters... At least archers that routinely go to 3D shoots Our summer fest in June, or when we have had 3D shoots in early Aug have had less numbers than those in the winter. IMO our summerfest should have the best turnout because of weather and all the movers we set out & trick shots.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Either way you cut it, there are always other activities going in that will coincide with 3-D and other archery shoots, be it duck hunting, winter steelhead, ski season, salmon season, halibut season , hunting season,  honey do list season and all the rest. The great thing about having WSAA in this state is the clubs can get together and put together a pretty good calendar of shoots and events that are spread out through out the year to where archers can pick and choose which archery event they can work into their busy life schedual.

 :yeah:
Not to mention clubs that are located close to each other don't schedual on the same weekend stealing # from each other so neighter makes the club any $. I wish that kenmore would become a WSAA member so that at least thier events (i think they only hold 1-2 don't screw up other local clubs.

Well guys, maybe Special T and I are in the minority but I still appreciate all the effort that goes into putting these shoots on. Keep up the good work.

Since i have set up plenty of 3D for the club i REALLY appreciate a good 3d Setup by some one else and realize what a deal it is.... It would b e hard for me to go to a 3D if it was a perfect duck hunting day. right spot right wind... even if it was a slow day with perfect ducks cupped over decoys but took the whole day....
