:( I have to start all over building points. It took 6 to finally get drawn the first time around.

I liked it when they first came out w spring bear, drew it and much fewer applicants.  It gets more popular every year I think!

I know nothing about tag drawings, but looks like I will fiind out.
What are the "points" you talk about? How do you get them and how do you use them?
Sorry if them thar greenhorn questions git ya riled up there but I gotsta know! :yike:

small edit here......I can see from being to the site and reading the faq I am going to be more confused than ever.

If you purchase your tags for the 2014 year online, you can do the special permit immediately. I buy all my tags when placing the special permits. Once you have your licence and bear tag (good for the fall hunt), click on the special hunt application. You should see bear as an option for submitting the application. If hunting solo, then pick out the locations you prefer to hunt in order of preference, then submit and wait for the draw. Group draws are a little different; someone has to be the group leader and they will get a leader number the other member must submit to be apart of the group (max 2 for bear).

Points are awarded each year you submit and don't get drawn. They are supposed to help you get drawn above others the following year. In the reg next to the GMU you should see two numbers... (applicants/point to draw). It helps to find a GMU with low numbers in both!! But that isn't always possible with hunt areas that are local.

The area I hunt has approximately 230 applicants for 25 permits. On average, points are 2 before you get a tag... that would be every 3 years.

I received a tag last year, so I'm back to helping a friend get his until I draw again! Still get to hunt bear in the fall with the tag you purchase.

Cubs....every single one of them.  :chuckle:

Actually....I think last spring saw a greater number of big bears. There was one Skagit hog that comes to mind. Mine out of Monroe was no slouch. I think the earlier green up and slightly extended seasons in a few of the areas helped out a bunch. I'll be ghosting, bro in law putting in for Monroe.
