Arrow advice
« on: January 06, 2014, 09:29:45 AM »
I am going to buy some new arrows in the next couple weeks and I would like some Input from some more experienced archers. My bow is a Martin Scepter II with Z cams 28” 65#, shooting a winn free flight release with a limb driver rest. I am currently shooting 30” Easton excel 340’s with 4” helical fletch and a 145gr tip (I selected these for a different bow, that’s why they’re over spined and using a really heavy tip.)  I think I want to use Easton excel 400’s 28” with a 100gr tip and stick with the 4” helical. My feeling is that these will be better matched to my bow and flatten out the trajectory a bit. I was hoping someone could enlighten me on how much I could expect my trajectory to flatten out or any other advice a more knowledgeable archer could give me.

Much Thanks

Tough to say.  I wouldn't expect much.  The 400 spine might be a tad light, what is the grains per in on them? I would cut an inch or inch and  half of what you are currently shooting and stick with the stiffer arrow unless you are having tuning problems.

You do not need to run a 4" fletch. Have you ever tried using a 4 fletch arrow . Superior broadhead flight. I use 4 of the AAE max hunters. They are very tough and with the Max Bond glue and no prep you can do a dozen arrows in about 20 minutes, go right out shoot them and pull them by the fletch. I have never lost one.
Have you ever walk back tuned? No need for paper tuning. You will be in direct line at eighty yards if done correctly at 20 and 30 yds. If you do not understand what I mean let me know and I will explain it better. Check your FOC.  400 spine would be a little light at 30" . If you can cut some off of the front end and go with a 100 Gr broadhead they shoud work fine.
