Predator control (or lack thereof) is probably one of the biggest issues that WDFW needs to address.

From longer cougar seasons (year around would be best IMO), general season spring bear across the State, delisting the wolf wherever the Feds say we can delist them, allowing decoy dogs for coyote hunting, and any other ideas that people can come up with to put a dent in the amount of predator that are eating away the deer, elk, and moose populations.

That's pretty much what I told them in the survey.  Problem is, I bet a lot of anti hunters have done the survey and told WDFW that they want better predator protection in place..........  :bash:

No other single point can bring hunters to agreement, or gain more support. Unfortunately it isn't pushed enough.

Public comment sought on
state game management plan

OLYMPIA - The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is conducting a public opinion survey to help identify key wildlife issues to be addressed in the department’s 2015-2021 Game Management Plan.

The information gathered from the survey will help WDFW update its current plan, originally developed in 2003 and updated in 2009. The plan guides the long-term management of game species, and is used to develop three-year hunting packages that set annual regulations for hunting seasons.

The survey is available on WDFW’s website through Jan. 3 at http://wdfw.wa.gov/conservation/game/2015/ . Paper copies of the survey also are available by contacting the Wildlife Program at (360) 902-2515.

"The public’s involvement is essential in creating a comprehensive and effective game management plan," said Dave Ware, WDFW game division manager. "We look forward to hearing from people as we go about updating this plan that will guide game management priorities."

The opinion survey addresses a number of game management issues, including:

•   Hunter recruitment and retention
•   Hunting regulations
•   Land access for hunting
•   Wildlife conflict
•   Habitat enhancement
•   Questions directed at specific species

Once the survey results are analyzed, WDFW will incorporate them into a draft plan, which will go out for public comment next spring. The plan will be considered for final approval by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission next summer.

I would like to see the "Top 10" that they end up with after the survey is closed. I know that I'll be raked over the coals but... Mountain Goat management? Really what percentage of people will have an issue on that one? Say in comparison to addressing predation impacts on deer/elk?

I agree, but its a survey so they need to include everything so that its complete. I hope everyone made comments to clarify your position because ALL of those check marks could be interpreted wrong by them. (By Design). Since they limited you to 10 they should have givin you the full list. Did you notice you had more choices in the beginning than later on? I would LOVE to see the survey and find out who put this thing together for them. I think there may be a little pushing  going on in this pol, Not as bad as some of thier other ones tho.

Exactly what people were complaining about earlier in the year and were waiting for the comment period thats what

Okay, well what was that?  I'm not a mind reader. I was curious what specifically the OP was referring to. Fact is there are many issues people complain about, but the problem is none of us agree on what the most important issues are and what the solutions are.

No, I was not. There was no way of knowing how many you had selected. I probably selected around 20.

As Special T said, they should have let you see the entire list of options at one time, so that you could choose your top 10.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a more useless survey- total joke!

There is only 1 reason why you MIGHT do something like this. Sometimes the polsters ask a control question(s) to gauge how intense/consistant you are on your comments. Those normally happen with a rate 1-5 type question. This poll is an exploratory poll to find out hunters issues are and what direction the WDFW should go... This is the critical time when they need to steer hunters into the direction the department actually wants to.
