theres a bunch of bad info
you hush.  its all good info  :chuckle:

You guys realize the Hell's Canyon herds are genetically the same as those in the Blue Mountains, don't you?  In both cases, there ain't nuttin' left, wooves ate 'em all.

Area 11 is great for both deer and elk.  Just chose your species, pay the $154 up front, apply for a tag, and then hunt OTC in another area if you don't get drawn.  By the way, you get a free 3-day fishing license with your hunting license, so spend a long weekend in August or September when the rivers are low and have a great time fly fishing.  That's my plan.

Just a couple tidbits from hunting unit 11! Whitetails are almost all on private land so not a lot of public access! 2) if you get drawn for a muley be ready to bring your boat or someone with a boat to get yourself and deer out! When you do drop off the top it's no motor vehicles to the bottom and there are several petal bikes down there that were someone's great idea! Horses or boat are really only way to successfully hunt that unit! Seen many guys have that tag on their pocket and spend all season on top looking down but not able to!

Also if I remember only one non resident can be drawn or 10 percent? Something that limits non residents getting the tags!

All these people giving reasons to not apply for unit 11... I know how this game works. I'm in, unit 11 or bust!!

Lol! There's some great deer in there but just letting people know there's a reason for that! I think people think oh the hardest part is drawing! The drawing is probably the easiest and cheapest part of that unit!

Advice from an honest man.

I don't own a horse, or a boat.  If I draw, will you be my buddy??

true its a 10% cap on Non resident tags, but its decieving the odds. Residents and non residents are all in the same hat and once they have hit the 10% non resident limit they just discard the non residents from draw.

Hey BiggerHammer, the 2014 Idaho big game regulations came out today.  Are you still applying for Unit 11?

Here is the special hunt details.  http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/public/docs/rules/bgDeerCH.pdf

Area 11 is great for both deer and elk
one thing to watch for on the bull tags if you don't enjoy crowds...last year (and this year) they have 150 cow tags open in that unit for the 9 days preceding the bull hunt...then 200 new cow tag holders seasons start on the same days as the bull hunt.  the few years prior to this the bull guys were the only tags open for a 10 day period which meant way fewer hunters...hopefully they get bull:cow ratios back in check and go back to a more "premium" bull tag setup.

It seems to me there are about 6 guys on this thread, and MAYBE none of us are applying for cow/bull tags in 11 or 18, or MAYBE NOT.

I have been drawn for the unit twice! First time was early hunt aug1-sept 15 in the northern part of the unit, which is almost all private but being that family owns a lot of it had great access! Past on 2 5pts and bugled in a little 6 that come by a 15yr old with a tag that got his first elk! So that tag made soup! Drew the regular bull tag last year and wow did the cow hunters have the elk pushed down to no mans land! Did see several bulls but nothing over 330 which I am not killing myself for a freezer elk!
