In all its real easy to apply for controlled hunts in idaho. Easier than wa. I would recfomend you apply for elk and deer since you are already buying the license anyways. Then if you don't draw you can decide if you want to hunt otc. When its time to apply you can shoot me a pm if you want and I can help you through it. I have been apply ing the last 3 years and will continue to do so. Its nive to have decent draw odds for a change. Even the unit 11 deer tags have much better odds than say entiat or desert here in wa.
which pushes the few crab claw bucks left into the depths of hell.

The problem is you have to buy a license that costs $150 just to put your name in the hat for a permit that's next to impossible to draw. Those guys talking about powerball and state lottery are right, the odds are about the same. Then you're going to have to go through the same disappointment you go through in Washington when you don't draw except you're also out $150 with nothing to show for it. There's a couple other things you need to consider. The Hell's Canyon wolf pack crossed over the salmon river a few years ago and are working over the deer herd in a big way. In 2013 for the first time they had an early cow hunt from Oct. 1-9 which pushes the few crab claw bucks left into the depths of hell. To go after them you'll need to be insane and/or have hooves instead of feet. Imagine country so steep you'll wish you didn't have ankles! My advice, save your money and be satisfied with the annual dose of disappointment you get from the WDFW.

Just to clarify if I want to put in for sheep in Idaho, I cannot put in for deer draw? But still buy OTC. And it looks to me that some areas a deer tag will work for whitetail or muley, but if you buy a whitetail tag it is obviously only good for whitetail. Is that because there are areas open later for whitetail only tags? Otherwise wouldnt you be better off having a deer tag? I am new to Idaho but tired of the numbers game for Washington. Although they will still get my money, I may be educated but still dumb enough to play.
