I don't own any but wouldn't have any concerns about it.  I luv those Ruger single shots.  I'd much rather have one of those than a break open like a TC.  Granted you have the barrel change capability in the others but the accuracy, aesthetics, etc of the Rugers are unmatched.  Classic... they are!

I like the way the no1 shot but after seeing a friend hunt coyotes with one I will stick to my AR :tung:. I would love to have one for deer or elk though.

I have two and most likely wouldn't ever sell either of them, just keep adding :) Funny I saw this post right before I was going to start a thread on #1's. Both mine have beautiful wood. I have a weatherby .300 mag and a weatherby .270 mag.
My .300 is my primary hunting rifle and the .270 is a bench queen. My dad also has a #1 in .270 weatherby. I'll post some pics of them when I get a chance and I encourage other #1 fans to do the same. Lets see em. I would like to eventually get one in a .243. I was even wondering if any of you gunsmithing nuts have any good mods for these rifles like trigger jobs or anything. Not that they are not already accurate enough :chuckle:

I have a #1 in 45/70 with the laminate stock.

Pros and Cons:

Pro: It's the same weight and overall length as my guide gun, yet has a longer bbl.
Pro: Stonger action than any other 45/70, 400 gn JSP at 1900 fps for a starting load (in the Ruger Only section).

Con: Only one shot.  I once pursued a bear in the woods, when I was out deer hunting with the #1.  I felt a little naked without a quicker follow up shot.
Con: Short throat...I can't load most 350gn and heavier bullets at standard OALs due to the short throat in the #1.

I would think a #1 in 35 whelen would be awesome...18" bbl.

+1 on the 35 Whelen, or even a 350 Rem mag

I ran 30-06's in the #1B for over 15yrs!!!!!   And still would if they weren't so damn heavy.   They are awesome rifles.  I never felt at a disadvantage and most that saw me shoot would swear they held more than one shot.  They are 1 of my favorite rifles!!
