Seen this deer in Montana 2 years ago. In a permit area that I did not have a tag for . Crappy pic but was a tall pig.

That looks a lot like the buck that Mike Eastman shot that was on the cover of the Eastman's DVD Hunting the Mule Deer Rut.

Here's my addition. Tall and chocolate colored is my favorite looking buck. Hope to get a nice mule deer someday.

Some great bucks!  I like the tall ones more than the wide ones.

The tallest buck I ever saw or heard of I saw on a late September backpack trip 25 years ago in Canadian back country.   A group of us watched the buck with binos for about ten minutes within 100 yards but none of us had a camera.   It was a mule deer so tall that it bugged out my eyes, and then it turned to face me.  It was so narrow in width that it looked really odd when facing me.  It was plenty wide for an average mule deer buck but with antlers so tall it made that width look skinny.  It had another extreme feature as well:  the widest spread front to back of any deer antlers I've seen or seen pictured.   I wish I could have measured the distance from the tip of the front point to the tip of the back one on either side.   When the buck was sideways it made me go, "WOW!"  When it would turn toward me my perception changed to "WEIRD!" It was sort of ugly and misshapen looking because it was so tall and narrow.

I'm not sure what the narrow width would do to the net score but otherwise with the deep forks and long tines it was an easy Boone & Crockett gross.  I had a deer tag in my pocket and season was open but I hadn't carried a rifle in case it might offend a couple of city folks I didn't know well. :(
