Rimrock Permit Hunt

Hi,
I am new to the site and want to share a couple pictures of a bull I shot on the Rimrock rifle permit hunt. I got him on the afternoon of the first day (Oct. 20). A couple of friends and I drove around and bugled in likely places all day and we finally got one to answer. We were able to follow him into his bedding area and after patiently waiting about 45 minutes and cow calling only a few times he bugled again and we knew he was within 50 yards, I took a couple steps around a tree and spotted him, got on a knee and dropped him with one shot from Sako .338. He is a 5X5 with what I think is a small body, but it is the best meat of any elk my friend and I have taken in the past. We had one other permit but my friend was unable to close the deal. We had a couple of bulls bugling every night within 200 yards of camp but was unable to get a clear shot at them in daylight as they were in steep and thick cover.

Nicely done! His body does look rather small, but I thought it was just the angle of the photo. He's 3 1/2 or 4 1/2 years old so he should have been good sized.
[By the way, there's a lesson in bugling here folks. I can't count how many times people tell me that bulls don't bugle in October. I quit arguing a few years ago...]
