New Years resolution-build an ar
« on: January 07, 2014, 07:09:02 PM »
So my New Years resolution is to build am ar in 223. This will be my first ar and first build. I plan on starting with a rainier arms lower and will probally use an palmetto state armory upper. I plan on buying a piece a month. Any pointers? Or things I should look out for.
Thanks

I'll be watching this thread. I have been reading up alot the last few nights to gain some knowledge for building my own. Was looking at Mega for upper and lower or possibly a OnTarget lower. A Black Hole barrel, after that unsure.

Get the barrel first, the rest comes easy. If you can find the barrel you want on hand that's great but allot of them you have to order and it takes time. So while your waiting for your barrel, you can be getting other parts. Sucks to have everything for a build sitting there and be waiting on a barrel.

I did notice that, emailed Black Hole today about a barrel. Plan to order it next week.

Good luck! On the 15th of Jan through mid Feb. You get 20% off all on line barrel purchases at BHW. I imagine you already know that if you spoke with them. How long it will take? They say their delivery times have shrank but the jury is still out on that. Depends on the configuration I guess, there's mixed reviews.

Call them! They may have something you want on hand.

He didn't tell me about a sale, hmmmmmmm. He did say half the posted lead time; so about 6 weeks. I went with an 18" mid length has .750 1x8 twist in black. He said availability was good.

Love the 18"s. Did you go with the standard profile? They also do a lighter version.

I would call and get the 20% deal since you're so close to the 15 th sale. It would save you 50.00 plus bucks on the barrel.

Yup, try High Mountain Hunting Supply. The have several barrels in stock and treated me VERY well on an AR-15  6-6.8 20" Black Hole Weaponry barrel.
And, they are sponsors on this site which helps keep it going for all our enjoyment.

Rainier arms sells Black Hole barrels. If you look under thier "Select" barrel section, those are OEM to Rainier arms from Black Hole and made to Rainier arms specs.
