Busy Cougar Season For WDFW

Sounds like we could open up some hound hunting to those of us paying for licenses.

as it should be, i dont understand why its taking so long, re introduce the pilot pragram at the least, make sure that al qoutas are met in each area, big cats, bobcats and bear are destroying deer heards in some area, big cats are oppurtunists, pure and simple, they will feed in a way that keeps them expending the least amount of energy, the young cats are useally the ones pushed into areas where will likely be a better chance for human and pet contact. some laws were made with NO real thought put behind it

We've got 2 cats in the private I hunt in 117 that have confirm killed 17 deer in the last 3 months.  We call our winter feeding program the "Supper Club" last year we had about 25-40 deer in every night.  Last month straight we've had 1 doe with no fawn.  Game warden says unless they prey on my uncle's horses or are in the yard he won't issue a permit.  Looks like I won't be hunting there next year.  Snow on the ground finally after the first of the year but due to the WDFW's genius predator protection goon squad 117 closed Dec 31.

 

Game warden was also excited to report to us that 2 wolves are between Horseshoe and Fan Lake now and they are excited. 

I can't hike armed this spring or summer...... temptation too great.

It has to be passed through the state legislature.  You could probably get a rep from E Washington to sponsor the bill, but might be difficult getting it introduced.  If it survived the reps and senate, it would have to make it past the governor.  I think they tried last year, but one of the greeny reps killed it before it even had any real chance.

We'll never get hound hunting and baiting back in this state as far as I'm concerned. The PETA ads and all the money from nonresident people screwed us for life. I'd love to see it brought back, but karma is coming to bite the greenies in the rearend. The cougars are killing all their beloved deer, lurking around their homes, possibly killing a kid or senior citizen one day. Now the greenies are complaining about something they spent millions on to save and it ain't working.

well, still hoping itll change someday but i guess ill go out and do a few sets trying to call one in tomorrow in the mean time.  hopefully some peta member gets killed by a coug on a nature hike.  then we can try to reintroduce the bill huh?

not that im aware of.  i knew he was going, but he didnt say anything to me about it.  well see how sore i am.  ive been searching for moose paddles for four days straight, through deep snow, my legs are aching.  could probably use a day off from hiking around.

We will never see it again. As with baiting, too many bad apples back in the day in the Methow with hounds and with baits,  combined with the west side treehuggers...well, better grab a call and give it your best

baiting for cougs is still legal, its just ineffective.  baiting for bears is illegal, but because of that there are so many around you dont need it.  this last season i went out scouting and fell asleep.  i woke up to a bear coming right at me and shot him at 8 FEET, thats FEET,  not yards, with my sidearm.  3 hours into my hunting season and filled my bear tag without trying.  ive had days where ive ran into 3 or 4 bears on accident.   screw calling.  with our states horrible predator management policies its a wonder were not all relying on obamacare to fix our sprained ankles every day from us tripping on bears and cougars.  we have a predator problem.  we NEED to do something about it!

Agree, we do have a predator problem, just stated that the old days are gone. Yes, spotting them is pretty easy if you know where o look...calling just adds some excitement and is a great way to hunt them where the country is thick..as for baiting cougars, can be very effective if you know where and how . Done it myself several times!
