Rich's Hunting Adventures
« on: January 12, 2014, 01:25:02 PM »
Just a warning to my fellow hunters - I booked a hunt in Craig Colorado in January of this year with Rich Botta of Rich's Hunting Adventures out of New York. I gave him a $2000.00 deposit. He cashed my check. After ten months with no response to e-mails, calls, or texts, two weeks before the hunt, he tells me he has no hunts in Craig. Says I can hunt in Mexico! No offer made to hunt in the U.S. as a replacement. I asked for my deposit back, he texted “lol”. He has kept my deposit. Other hunters are coming forward on the forums talking about similar experiences.

Hope this post is helpful.

Did you get the authorities involved? I did a google search for him and all I found were a whole ton of web forums that you posted 1 time on, trashing the guy and then never came back to....

Is this him?

It shows he has hunts in Craig Colorado. http://www.huntingrich.com/#!usa/c176y

I wonder what the other side of the story is? I sent the guy an email asking him if he wanted to offer his side of the story with a link to this topic.

Man, you need to get the authorities involved with this guy. Looks like Roch Botta has the same copied and pasted reply to every thread he's responded to. I'll be curious to hear if he's got something new to say other than his other replies that are all exactly the same.
Is a $2k deposit commonplace in this scenario, Dale?

I did a Bing search on this guy and didn't see a review that would make me even want to make a phone call, much less send him some money. From the sounds of some of the people he was hired by he should be in jail for fraud!

Yes, a 50% deposit is pretty normal for most outfitters. If the hunt is $4000 then they would ask for a $2000 deposit.

It's amazing how small of world the hunting world is. Rich just called me, it turns out I have talked to him before, he is a booking agent, he nearly sent me some hunters last fall for Montana, but apparently the deal fell through and the hunters decided not to come.

Now what's even more surprising is that the hunter who is mad at Rich has hunted with me twice in Montana and once in Idaho.

I always figure there is two sides to every story, but I am surprised that I know both people. I'll let them work it out, it's really none of my business, I sent the message to Rich because I thought both parties should have a chance to air their side of the story.

About average for guided hunt. Lives in NY to guide in Colorado might raise a flag.

Not throwing the guide under guy under the bus as of yet, but I am willing to bet this is the same guys who has been selling hunts on Ebay for years and goes by huntingrich1    You can look at his hunts on Ebay.  He is offering a little bit of everything.    He used to go by richeshuntinhelp until recently.  Not sure why the Ebay name change.  I spoke to the guy a few years back when he had a "too good to be true" moose hunt up in Northern BC.    Typical rude New Yorker.  Knew nothing about the hunt he was selling when asked specifics.   I passed.  Here is a link to one of his Feebay hunts:   You can look at his other auctions to see what he is selling

Expensive lesson, hope it gets worked out. Not sure why you would throw that kind of money out there before you did some research.  :dunno:
