Just came across a whitetail hunt in NE WA with David Blanton.  He got a nice buck.  But what's the deal with him using mechanical broadheads?

Davy's got some splainin to do to WDFW and the court. Illegal harvest of game in Wa. is frowned upon and I hope that ends up on his show as well.

yeah I saw the show and noticed that too. At the end of the show when they were in the taxidermist shop did you notice the officer standing in the background? not sure if there was any relation, doubtful. but yeah, illegal equipment caught on camera.

NOw heres a good question.........if during modern rifle season, you can use an inline scoped muzzleloader, why wouldnt you be able to use sight lights and lighted nocks for archery during modern firearm seasson  ?

I know lighted nocks are now legal, Im talkin past tense.

One time briefly you could see the broadhead as he was walking to his buck and yes he was hunting in the colville area. The taxidermist lives up hwy. 20

I just caught the tail end of the episode when he went back to look for his buck.  He had an arrow nocked with a mechanical broadhead.  Who knows, maybe that part was staged after they had already recovered the buck, and he just threw in the mechanical for his sponsors?

If you looked close, maybe the bigger the TV the better when he came to full draw you can see the broadhead but a little tough, It did look like a mechanical.

Lighted reticles are legal for modern weapons and they use bats.....so why wouldnt bats be legal on bow during modern......

I knew/know the archery equip rules, but am aluding to archery during modern....as with muzzle loaders during modern being able to use accessories that are otherwise illegal during muzzy season.

I watched the episode an he was actually up to do a speaking engagement for a church and it was the local pastor that set him up with some land to hunt on. I did notice what looked to be a mechanical broadhead but didn't even think about it considering that is pretty much what I see on all hunts....

Scopes are in the book as lawful during modern. Under Archery there is no where that I saw that there were any special rules for archery during modern. So that makes me thing mechanical broad heads would still be unlawful to hunt with during modern.

They are not legal for big game period, doesn't matter what season you are hunting in.  You can use them for anything else.

Mechanicals are illegal in this state regardless of season, and yes, there is nothing addressed about archery during modern, but was thinking maybe an amendment is forthcoming since muzzy guys can have modern accessories during modern firearms.  I guess the only thing for a bow would be a laser rangefinding sight or sight lights.......since lighted nocks are now legal.  Then again, why wouldnt xbows be legal during modern firearm, except wdfw EXPECTS US to poach with them.....guilty again before hand.

Seems like weapon restrictions fall into two categories:  (i) unfair advantage for the hunter (scopes on muzzy, electronics on bow), and (ii) ethical, clean kills (minimum poundage, arrow weight, etc.). 

I can see the first category getting waived if you were using archery or muzzy gear during the modern season.  But the latter category would never get waived.  I think the various broadhead restrictions would all fall into the latter category.

Not true.  Expandables can be used for small game animals.

I've said it before and ill say it again. If you have PROOF of a game violation it is an ethical  resposiblity to report it. However, its up to the authorities to pass judgement, not me.

I'm not disappointed in that thread. I did post that when you try to game the system, you're gonna burn for it sooner or later.  I've skirted the rules in my young and dumb days. It rarely failed to bite me in the butt.
