Great hunt with new pup
«
on:
January 13, 2014, 06:02:28 AM »
The ducks were here in LARGE numbers starting last tuesday. We shot 3 limits on Thursday and then went east for geese and Quail. The wind blew us off the field on Saturday. We came home amd hunted my pond on Sunday. There were over 400 birds in the air at leagal shooting light. It was like a swarm. We had birds consistantely until we left. We had a great shoot. I want to thank Wrongway for showing me how to shoot once again
My new pup (10 months old) was on fire. She is going to be a GREAT dog

That's awesome. Wish I could see that many ducks. I've only seen 3 snow geese so far this year.

Nice work, I drive by that blind and hardly ever see it hunted. I've always wondered how good that blind works on educated birds, but now know as I could hear you banging at daylight. Ya, it was a magical morning SW of you as well. Again, nice work hammering some late season birds!

I put Cedar trees in because they look natural. The cedars stay wet and live the entire season. It does not look Boxey like most blinds. The birds are usually in or near the blind the next day. I put the blind together in my shop and drive it up the road with my tractor ,out in the water and set it down. It has been a tough year. The birds were not here for much of the season. When they are here it is always a good spot. I have had as many as 3-4 thousand geese in the air and water at the same time. I have a video that is deafening

CGS.......great advice about the cedar trees. I've wondered for years why you chose them over more tradition grass. Makes perfect sense now. I'm assuming the birds circle and then commit if they see nothing? Are you getting close decaying shots or having to shoot them 40yds out on the swing? Come to think of it the limbs never have looked brown. Now you have me thinking.....thx for the reply. Good luck the rest of the season.

They stay green with the water they are in. I make sure the trees are sitting on the ground. Sometimes we take turns shooting the heads off. They are not afraid. It blows in the wind and looks natural. Not boxey.
