Patternmaster for Benelli M2

Hey all,

Looking to get a new choke for my benelli. I have been using factory modified choke so far but hear the patternmasters are great for everything from 8s to BB. Wanted to know your thoughts and also which patternmaster to get. Seem to be multiple different types in both short and long range. Thanks for the input.

I shoot a Briley IM in my SBE2. At 30 yds I have 158 pellets of NO 2 shot in a 20"x30" pattern. Federal 1550 FPS
 138 Pellets of Blind side 3" shells same yardage

I have a Patternmaster in my 10 gauge and a BC Patternmaster in my M2.  I think I like my Kicks high flyers better.  I have the mod / full and pass shooting Kicks.

I have owned several pattern masters and never had super luck with them. I am with H20 on this one my kicks chokes have been much better to me.

A Patternmaster is only a IC constriction choke but because of the 5 raised posts inside, it slows the wad and takes it out of the equation as far as the pattern goes. The shot can then travel down range without a wad blowing thru the middle of it and stringing it out. Because of this, Patternmaster chokes have a very short shot string resulting in more pellets hitting the bird compared to a constriction type choke that has a very long shot string. A constriction type choke is more forgiving but definitely doesn't kill birds as fast especially on crossing shots.
I've got a drawer full of choke tubes for all my shotguns but my Patternmaster hasn't been out of my SBEII except for cleaning in about 4 - 5yrs. Love it, period.

I have the Patternmaster Code Black Duck choke in my Remington 870 Super mag. It is a full constriction with 2-3/4" and 3" ammo. It is a modified with 3-1/2" ammo. It seems to pattern 1-1/4 oz.  #3 shot better with more pellets on target. This is a new choke for me and I love it. Originally I was going to get the goose one but figured I would be fine with the duck choke sense I mainly shot 2-3/4" and 3" shells.

Thanks guys. I was looking up the kicks chokes as well they look good too. It says full for all around shooting. I always think of full as being too tight. Anyone use kicks full and like it?

One of the best patterning guns I've ever shot is my 3" Mag Rem 870 Wingmaster bought in 1976 when I got out of basic training. 30" full choke. Prior to screw in chokes. It shoots fantastic patterns with most anything and I use it as a base for every new load I pattern. Steel shoots fine thru a full choke. It just shoots tight but most times that's what you need to kill ducks/geese quickly - lots of pellets on target.

I use the full and it is a good choke.  For over the decoys I have been using the mod.  The mod peters out about 45-50 yards or sails more birds.  If they are mid range or further go with the full.  Reduces recoil wigh the directional porting and throws a nice pattern.  I prefer this vs the Patternmaster.  I have been shooting them both for many years.

Ditto!!!!  I have found the briley pattern the best for me.  I shoot an M2 with a briley IM

Are you really using a Improved Modified Briley choke or a Light Modified?  I wouldn't expect the Briley improved modified to be much different than the Benelli Improved Modified.  Briley makes some factory chokes for Benelli I believe.  Also doesn't Benelli recommend against using anything more constrictive than Modified with Steel Shot?

I have a 28" SuperVinci and switched from using the **** Improved cylinder to *** Modified this season after a friend patterned his 28" Super Black Eagle.  I have insta killed every duck since (not a lot of ducks this year) where I had a lot of wounded ducks that were trying to swim, dive, and even fly off after folding and crash landing before.  I know I need to pattern my own gun and have thought about getting a Briley Duck Choke for the Benelli in light Modified ***.5

What would be the benefit of getting a ported one if any?

  My choke say IM right on the side. I was given it to try a couple of years ago. It shoots well. I kept it. The ported chokes are VERY loud. A buddy has the ported Kicks in his gun. He cannot bring it to my pond. the neighbors complain. I do believe the IM is more open than the straight Modified.

Loud is good if you can't hit the ducks they will die from the shock of a kicks.
Love my kicks but ya they are loud but pattern great.
