Well I made it back, spent a lot of time driving (1250 miles one way). I hunted with Jim River Guide Service out of Mellette S.Dakota. It was a Good time and not just running out and shooting a cow in a buffalos' robe in a pen. We located the Bull and made a stalk on him and I was able to get within about 60 yds of where he was traveling to and waited for him to come. He never knew we were there when I was able to "start" shooting him.... I was shooting a Freedom Arms .454 Casull (7.5" barrel 2.5x8 Leupold)with Federal Prem. 300 gr Swift A-frames. I was able to break his shoulder (low in-line with heart) the first shot, then put 2 more in the same area before he turned direction at which time I shot him two more times in the area of the heart, (5 shot cylinder) I reloaded and dumped 5 more into him at maybe 65 yds, reloaded and shot him 2 more times before he layed down at which time I put two more into him(14 total) reloaded walked within 30 yds and put two more into him, and he still remained in the upright position-laying down, for a good 30 seconds before giving it up.... Total 16 shots, 3 from one side, 13 from the other all within a 8" diameter area, all on video and when skinned nothing in heart or lungs.... 3 shots in under the heart probably did the most damage the balance never made it through the shoulder to puncture heart or lungs..... Guide has been involved in many, many buffalo and called everyone of my shots, as on the video seen and once skinned seen again, hitting him hard where I should have been, just not getting the penetration.... Very tough animal, but very big handgun, a total of 16-300 gr slugs=4800 grains of swift A-frames....
It was fun, 13 year old bull, est'd live weight of 2400 lbs. hanging weight a little over 1000 lbs. Having a Pedestal shoulder mount and robe/blanket made out of the hide...and a bunch of burger!

Thanks for the great story and congrats again on a great hunt. Now...When are you hosting the Central Washington Buffalo hamburger round up this summer??? I will bring the Bruns and burger fixings!!!!!
Another thought I had when reading this story was; Can you imagine killing one with spears, long bows and wooden arrow.
Amazing to think it use to be done that way.

You were lucky to find a 13 year old bull, not many that age running around. Congrats

I wonder if results would have been better if you had used hard cast bullets. Very cool adventure. Monstrous critter.
