I was sold on this new water filter.  Fits in-line with a camel back and does 100,000 gallons of water.  Only weights 2.5 oz's too.  And best part about it is that it only cost 22.00

Wow.

Sawyer's certified 0.1 micron absolute filter removes bacteria and protozoa at a higher rate than accepted EPA guidelines"

This is huge!  Water is usually my heaviest single item, trying to carry enough for however long I will be out.  This little gadget is gonna help me shed some serious weight, thanks for posting it up!

Didn't really hunt elk in 2013.  So I plan on adding more elk blood to my pack in 2014.

I'm also going on about 8 elk with the same Alaskan game bags.  So this year I'll have some shinny new ones without the holes

Usually carry three different knives and a sharpener in my pack.  Now that I've joined the Havalon fan club I'll be dropping one or maybe two of the knives and the sharpener from the pack.  Should drop about 10 oz.

I ain't changing a thing.

I'm doing about the same.  Been doing this enough years I'm pretty comfortable with with my pack and what I carry.

Yeah you can pick em up at walmart to man. It comes with a pouch to put water into, about 1 liter I believe, you screw on your filter and can drink right from it, ORR you can just get a good water bottle and fill it with water, the filter screws right onto the top of the water-bottle, Ive noticed it doesnt screw onto the small cheap water bottles u buy in bulk though.. not enough threading on them.

I'm going to do some testing this spring. I'm hoping a fully charged battery in airplane mode turned on for pictures will get me through a week.

That is what I do.  Last year I still had 50% when I got back to the rig.

Switching my tent out for a bivy,

not to derail this thread, but why?  (not stirring the pot, really want to know).    I have wanted a bivy for some time now, but with the advances in tents, it seems like it offers minimal weight and space savings with big costs in features.

I have a Big Angus Fly Creek UL 2 man.  I can easily get my 6'4" frame in that tent along with pack, all my gear, a place for boots to stay dry under the vestibule, and still have room to spare.  I can also sit up and change in it.  Total weight including a footprint, rain fly and full stakes in a stuff sack is 2 lbs, 12 oz.  If I want to go ultra light I can use just the footprint and rain fly and it goes to 1 lb 14 oz.

The lightest bivy's are about 1 pound, with most being 2-2.5 pounds.

With that cost benefit comaprison I can't talk myself into it.

That's exactly why I haven't bought a bivy yet.

My bivy is about 7oz and my tarp with guidelines and stakes is about 16oz.  That is the setup I use for solo backpacking.

Added a range finder, Replaced the tins of sardines and replaced the game bags, cause I used them :chuckle:  with regards to game bags I vacume pack them so they do not take up much room and it gives me a bag for the heart and liver.
