Why not a lightweight solar charger like a Goal Zero? :dunno:

I have the Goal Zero with the battery pack charger.  Unless I am going for more than three days I just carry the Battery pack charger, and 4 Lithium AA Batteries.   The solar panel can be a bit of a pain on the shorter hunts with camp on your back.  If you set up a base camp it works great to charge the battery pack during the day, and then recharge your devices with that after dark.  If you want to go cheap just get the battery charger.  I can charge my phone 2 times off of 4 AA.

I'm changing to a completely different pack. I went with the Horn Hunter Full Curl System. Pack my stuff and meat when needed. Before I had to go back to camp and get the pack frame.
A bad day in the woods is better than a good day at work.

had a kifaru siwash for the last couple years but bought a bikini frame, t2 bag and a highcamp 4800. also made a 10x12 tarp to replace my paratarp. other than that pretty much the same as last year. to answer robs question about the hiker pro, I have that and the hiker and prefer the hiker. the pro has a cheap plastic attachment thing on the bottom that breaks easy. other than that they are the same but the hiker is cheaper.

Ridgefire, why did you replace your paratarp? What material did you use for your new tarp?

I just wanted to make something a little bigger, more of a two man tent. I used silnylon that i bought from bearpaw. I will still use the paratarp when sleeping solo, its a great shelter.

I sometimes take a piece of Tyvek with me.  It costs nothing and is very light.  I haven't used it for rain but had to for snow and it worked real well.  It also worked well to lay out on the ground and lay meat on it to cool while boneing out animals.  The only drawback is that it is noisy.

I've seen some cats using Tyvek as a backpacking tent footprint. Where do you buy/get. it?

anti gravity gear and zpacks both sell tyvek by the foot. it comes 9 foot wide usually so 3ft would give you a 9x3 ground sheet.

Lots for me this year.. Tried to cut as much weight as possible from my old set up

Tarptent Contrail
Klymit X-Frame pad
Vanguard Espod Plus Tripod
Razor 20-60X85 spotter
switched from A buck skinning knife to a havalon
Vortex Range Finder
sold my .270 and went to a 7mm with a 4-16x50 hs lr

I'm ready for my hunt, got my weight with food but no water down to 36lbs. I think i can cut alittle more from that and that includes gun and binos/range finder which I will be wearing on my chest and carrying. My sleep system is down to 4.5lbs. Couldn't believe that when I added it up.

Mountainsmith lt 32oz
Quilt 24oz
Bivy 6oz
Pad 14oz

Semper Paratus

Beretta White Wing 12ga Approx 20k rounds and still going strong!
