Finally replacement front sight for Ruger SR22 available
« on: January 20, 2014, 10:33:47 AM »
So I have been looking for a front sight for my SR22 and this is the response I had this morning (01/20/2014) from Hi Viz, thought some of you might be interested in this as there has been zero offerings so far! Mike

We have a front sight of the SR22 it will be on our website by tomorrow.

The Ruger SR 22 looks like it was based on the Walther P 22 with Ruger's modifications.  I put a Hi-Viz fiber optic front sight on my Walther P-22, so the same one should fit, maybe?  Anyway, the Hi-Viz sight has a screw to hold it on, so it shouldn't get knocked off like the standard sights do.  :dunno:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Not really sure until they post it on the web site. My Ruger front sight is a dove tail fit so I would get it set and then use lock tight to keep it in place anyway. I just can not see the small factory sight anymore and no one had a replacement of any kind for this pistol. How do you like the sight on your Walther P 22?

Ah, that must be one of Ruger's modifications--A dovetail front sight as opposed to the press-in front sights on the Walther.
The Walther came with a set of front sights, a low, medium, and high, with the medium height one installed.  They get knocked off very easily, which is one of the reasons I got the Hi-Viz sight, plus the fiber optic red dot is easier to get on target.  They are a fun gun to shoot, and mine is actually the second one I bought.  My squirrel shooting buddy fell in love with my first one, so I sold it to him, and bought a new one for myself.  My new one has a thicker slide, because the first ones had a problem with the slide cracking.

I like the Hi-Viz front sight, and would never go back to the originals.  I think you will find it a much better sight!

So I looked at the sight and there are two set screws in the base to lock it in position (I would still use Lock Tight) and they state no fitting is required for a fit. Going to order one and see.

I've never seen a dovetail sight that didn't need at least a little file work to fit.  Good choice, though.  Make sure the sight is exactly where you want it before you Loctite it, especially if it's the red stuff!  :chuckle:

Update:
Just received and installed the "New" front sight for my Ruger SR22P and it is refreshing to have something go as smooth as a company stated it would. Easy install and looks great. Now I need to hit the range and try it out (I am sure it will help me aim better). Nice job Hi Viz!
I used my aluminum bar stock to remove the old sight and pushed the new on into the dovetail slot until it was half way there, used the same aluminum bar and a small hammer to tap it into place. Took 5 minutes and it looks great. I will take it to the range and sight it in before I use any thread lock product as advised.

Cool! I love the HiViz sight on my P-22.  Definitely an improvement!
