New one! Smoked peanut butter!
« on: January 22, 2014, 05:23:37 PM »
This was done using mixed nuts. Not a peanut in the bunch.
Smoke at 225* for 1 1/2 hrs
Toss into a food processor
Blend for 5 min
Add honey to taste
Add peanut oil to get the desired consistancy.
Peanut butter that tastes like a handfull of mixed nuts with a little smoke!

What wood are you using?
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

I dont know. I am thinking of just doing a jar and not using it just to see. Oils in nuts, peanut oil and honey none of those go bad quickly. First time trying this so we will see. Not sure if you can can peanut butter.

Ya, i couldnt get myself to type nut butter. Not enough beverages in me yet.

Found this about homemade peanut butter.

"Store it in the refrigerator until you use it.  It should keep for a month or two. You can also freeze it.  It will keep indefinitely in the freezer. In both cases, you may need to stir the peanut butter to mix the oils back in (the oil tends to separate over time). And no, you cannot "can" the peanut butter - it is too low acid to safely can with home equipment."

Interesting. Peanut butter in the stores should outlive all of us, wonder what they put in it?
