moose, bighorn, mtn goat
« on: January 22, 2014, 05:25:31 PM »
So what would you do? Going into the 2014 season I'll have 15pts each for the OIL tags, I know the chances are slim for drawing a tag but I'm in that realm of average pts drawn for all the species. So does a guy apply for all of them hoping to draw one or does he pick one for the next several years in hopes of drawing that tag and keep applying for pts with the others. I've been pts only up to this point, and thinking now would be a good time to put my name in the hat. What are your thoughts?

As unlikely as you are to draw either of the tags, its even more unlikely that you would ever draw more than one the same year, Dobby being the exception.

That said, you would be crazy to sit out one, while expecting to draw one of the others. :twocents:

One more thing, the odds of EVER drawing one of these tags in a lifetime is poor to begin with, waiting 15 years and only going for points is the same as throwing away 15 years worth of at least a slim chance in that lifetime, so get in the fight.

But by all means keep going the point option, I don't need the extra competition. ;) :chuckle:

I think it would be awesome to miraculously draw all oil tags in one season, what a Huntn season that would be, of course very expensive but definitely once in a lifetime, I would get trophyhunt to do all my scouting and packing. :chuckle:

I did the points option for most years because life happens, kids, new jobs, finances, drew tags in other states etc. if ya'll know what I mean.

Can you imagine drawing all three in a season. Guess I better start praying that happens huh? :chuckle:

I don't believe anyone has ever drawn all three, even in a lifetime. Odds of drawing all three in one year would be on the order of 1 in1,000,000.

The way I see it is if you are only putting in for points you are missing out on chances to get drawn.  If there is no conceivable way you could hunt if drawn then put in for points, otherwise you are just wasting chances. The likelihood of drawing any is slim but if you are just banking on being drawn for one specific tag your chaces are that much slimmer and you have cut your chances by 2/3 to get any OIL tag.

Is there a thread with peoples points on here?  I wonder who has the most and never drawn.
