I think you should just apply for moose until you get drawn or until I get drawn for sheep or goat, then you are free to apply for that species, as well.  I'll let you know when and for which species I get drawn for, so that you can put your name in the hat.   

I do know someone who got drawn for moose and sheep in the same year, but the odds of that happening are astronomical.  Besides, what a problem to have.

start putting in my friend!! ya cant win if your name isn't in the hat so to speak. I am new to posting here on the forums but not drawing tags in this state. I drew the mt. goat tag in 1982 and it took al the way to 2006 before I drew the moose (hangman A) and as luck and 9pts would have it i was floored when I drew the last of the oil tags the big horn sheep in 2013 (UMTANUM). I got the goat when I was 15yrs old thanks to a dad who practically lived and breathed hunting, himself drawing in 1976 and in 79 back when there was just a 3 yr. waiting period in-between. although I know the goat wasn't a oil tag back then I choose out of respect for the animal and my fellow hunters not to put back in for them. as soon as I get the picture posting thing figured out I will post all 3 and give a much over due shout out to my best friend and hunting partner of 35yrs and counting DMac and Elkstuffer (Ric) who without all there help I couldn't have done it. thank you once again. so put in and cross your fingers they are truly once in a life time tags.

NEVER apply only for moose, sheep, and goat points. 

In the 15 years you've been applying, you could have drawn one by now. Or more than one if you're really lucky. Odds are so low you really don't have the luxury of waiting until the "right" time to actually apply. It's great that you have those points but you'll never draw if you don't try.

I know many people have 18 points for moose, sheep, and goats. I'm at 17 for moose, don't know how I did it, but somehow I missed one year. Sheep I'm around 15 points since I gave up on that one since the application and tag prices went up. Odds are too low and not worth wasting the money every year, in my opinion.

So what would you do? Going into the 2014 season I'll have 15pts each for the OIL tags, I know the chances are slim for drawing a tag but I'm in that realm of average pts drawn for all the species. So does a guy apply for all of them hoping to draw one or does he pick one for the next several years in hopes of drawing that tag and keep applying for pts with the others. I've been pts only up to this point, and thinking now would be a good time to put my name in the hat. What are your thoughts?

One more thing, the odds of EVER drawing one of these tags in a lifetime is poor to begin with, waiting 15 years and only going for points is the same as throwing away 15 years worth of at least a slim chance in that lifetime, so get in the fight.

But by all means keep going the point option, I don't need the extra competition.

I agree, and if I was made of money I sure would be applying for sheep. But I had to cut back somewhere and that's one I didn't mind giving up on. The tag is $330 if you get drawn. That's too much for me. I'd rather spend $330 on an out of state deer tag.

You have to figure that if you keep putting in until you have 50 pts and eventually draw it would still cost you under $1000. That is about the cheapest sheep tag you you can get.

Moose on the other hand is not real high on my priority list.  I would like the meat but it is something you can get for a fairly reasonable price whenever you want.

Plus, not to mention, as bad as the odds are of drawing a moose tag, drawing a sheep tag is ten times harder. So you're never going to draw and all you're doing is donating $14 to the state every year.

And might I add, they will use the money you donated on the propagation of wolves and they will eat our moose and sheep, therefore forcing a decrease in hunting permits and lowering your odds of drawing even more!

Odds of drawing more than one OIL permit are on the order of 1 in 20,000. Doing that would be the least of my concerns.

Well, as someone who has been drawn for both sheep and moose in WA....I think a positive attitude helps the karma with drawing..... and less than 100 lbs off of a sheep??? Your pretty close on the moose.

Well I do have a positive attitude every year when I apply for moose. Every single time, in the last 17 years, I was sure that I was going to draw a moose tag.

It hasn't worked yet.   

So, how much boneless meat did you end up with off your sheep?
