Fiance's first deer!

Long story, short....she drew a mission tag, so I went up there a couple of time scouting the area and didn't see a single deer. Then I guided a guy who had an elk tag who was from the mission area. Well he gave me some pointers and got me headed in the right direction. So last week we hunted for three days and saw about 100 deer including 15 bucks, two of which were very big and definite shooters, but we couldn't get a shot. So this week we headed up on Tues morning very early, hoping to be up on the hill by daylight. Well the day started out rough...we had to go to three different gas stations to fuel up because they were switching to winter diesel and the pumps were pumping iiiinnnnccccrrrreeeeddddiiiibbbbllllyyyy sssslllloooowwww. So after driving around town for a half hour we hit the road. An hour and half later we pull in to the camp spot, unload our crap and head up the hill just after daylight to go hunting....halfway up the hill, my lovely fiances says "I forgot my license back at the camper" So back down the hill we go, get the license and head back up. We parked on a little spur road that we wanted to walk because we saw a huge buck out there last week. We make our walk, see one doe and head back to the rigs. I told her to unload so we can move to another spot, to which she replys "I'm trying, but I can't get the shell out". So she hand me the rifle and I try to open the bolt...no luck. So I really pull on it and it flys open shoot the casing out and spraying powder everywhere, but leaving the bullet firmly lodged in the bore.....So here we are in one of the best units in the state in the morning of the first day hunting in our last week, up on the mountain, and a bullet stuck in the rifle....great! (I may have used more colorful language up on the hill that morning, but this is a PG rating post!) So we race back down the mtn. and head for Wenatchee to find a gun shop...ooops oh wait it's a holiday! nothing open. Well I was able to call a buddy who helped us out, never did find out why the bullet got stuck. So that day was a bust, then Tues, we got rained out badly. Thurs. we get up, it's nice and clear, we head up the hill and decide to walk an old logging road that we saw a nice buck on the week before. We get in bout 200 yards, and I look up and see this nice buck with his nose to the ground grunting, heading right down the hill to the road we are standing on. He stops on the road at 30yrds and looks at us and my fiance says he's a nice buck, but I'll pass. I say o.k. but remember it's our second to last day, and we aren't seeing many deer. Then after the buck drops off of the road down into the brush she says your right lets get him. Right then I was thinking, why didn't she shoot him on the road? Anyway we hustle down the road and see the buck parralleling the road about 75 yards below and she makes a great shot and got here first buck. Luckily some really awsome other hunters up there helped us out and we got him out whole.

Nice buck. Tell here congrats.
Not sure if it would of worked on the pumps you encountered, but I've hit those slow diesel pumps before. This worked on a couple. If you start pumping and not much is happening. Click the handle off and wait for 10 seconds or so and try again. It has worked a few times for me. Not always, but occasionally.
