I've never laid eyes on a Blacktail with that kind of mass... Regardless of what he is...he's a great buck!

Why is it called a "bench buck"? or "bench leg"?

Why is it called a "bench buck"? or "bench leg"?

They tend to be big bodies which makes there legs appear to be shorter than nomal, having the appearance of a bench with short legs. So then Bench Leg bucks alternate meaning would be short legged buck.

Not really though, They just appear to be short legged due to there rotund body.

Most mass on a blacktail that I have ever seen!!!   I always marvel at a rack that has the length, width, and MASS like that one .  And whoever tagged that one should not quit hunting, they should thank the Lord for their good fortune and never stop hunting....

Very Nice :o  Thanks for the pics.  You better have that one measured for a state record.

I just got an e-mail from the guy that shot this buck, all this time I've been drooling over this buck and I didn't even realize it's a friend of mine that shot it.  He hunts very hard and is well deserving of a buck of that caliber.  As far as it being a Bench Buck, he told me were he shot it and it's not a bench buck.

He may as well throw in the towel on blacktails, I'm pretty sure he's peaked on this one.  ;)
