This buck was taken in the South Ranier Unit between Packwood and Randle.  He was with a doe in the timber.  I couldn't see his face, just one side of the rack and his chest.  I knew he was a nice buck when I fired, but was pretty surprised by his mass when I found him.  It was about 1:30 pm when I got him, and my hunting  partner and I had him packed to the truck just as it got dark.  He looked real nice in the back of the pick-up!  I plan on taking him to the sportmans show in Puyallup if anyone wants to take a look...

I can't believe I missed this thread before.  I can't wait for the Sportsman's show to see this in person.  Congrats on an awesome buck.

I'm pretty sure he falls within the Blacktail boundary for BC, what makes you think it can't be scored as a Blacktail?  I know several years ago the boundary was East of where the buck was killed, I guess it could have changed but I don't think so.

This is from the Boone & Crockett site:

Quote
Washington — Beginning at the Washington-British Columbia border, the boundary line runs south along the west boundary of North Cascades National Park to the range line between R10E and R11E, Willamette Meridian, which is then followed directly south to its intersection with the township line between T18N and T17N, which is then followed westward until it connects with the north border of Mt. Rainier National Park, then along the north, west and south park boundaries until it intersects with the range line between R9E and R10E, Willamette Meridian, which is then followed directly south to the Columbia River near Cook.

I put the pertinent part in bold. The buck, if killed in the South Rainier unit west of Packwood, is definitely scored as a blacktail according to the boundary given. Just for reference, SR 123 that runs to the north off of highway 12 east of Packwood, is about 1.5 miles east of the range line between 9 & 10.

Thanks for data, that's exactly what I remembered...I'm not sure why folks are assuming its a bench buck?
