What to start

Hello everyone,

My wife bought me a compound bow as a surprise. It is something that I have always wanted to do. So now I am looking at going bow hunting this fall. I haven't been hunting since I was a boy. My Dad and I would go hunting every year.

Where do I start with bow hunting?
Where are some decent areas to go scouting or just getting out there for a few nights?

I have a million questions since I am starting at square one.

Best advice is to go to a local sporting goods store... like cabelas, and ask all the guys in the archery dept. if and where any local archery clubs are.
From there, the best way to get filled in on all the info is to talk to people.
I realize this forum is KINDA like talking to people... but, a range is much better.
Here in Kitsap/Mason county we have a really fun Archery club called the K.B.H.
Kitsap Bow Hunter's Association.
Other club's just like it are out there.

Personally, when guys at work ask me, "Is there any good videos out there that will teach me to be a better bow hunter?"
I tell them, "Of course! Go check out this old 80's movie called Rambo First blood part 2."

When someone asks me how they can learn to BBQ better I tell them to BBQ. All the classes and YouTube videos in the world are meaningless without practice. Ribs & Chicken practice this weekend. The competitive season will start in a few months.

Yes, I really enjoyed last weekend at GFSC shooting 3D targets with my son-in-law. I need to get him onto a left-handed bow. Chemo claimed the vision in his right eye. He tried hard to shoot right-handed but can't sight. Wish we could have hung around longer.... there was Seahawks game that day.
