January Scouting
« on: January 25, 2014, 08:04:19 PM »
I've been reading Blacktail Trohy Tactics and learning some good informaiton.  Picked up a used copy off Amazon.

Went on a hike an did some scouting today with my son.  I didn't see anything until I got home and was walking behind our house in the woods and notice 3 does just standing still and watching me.  I hope to get a deer this season.

I've been wanting to get a good black tail hunting/tactic book but don't know a good one.
How good is this one? And how do you like it? What all does it talk about? Because I have heard of some black tail books just talking about tree stand hunting.

So far I think it has had a lot of information.   There is an earlier addition and I don't know how the two compare.  A lot of people on here suggested it so I decided it is probably a good place to start.

There are 2 people that will change your success rate IMO. For Blacktail deer it's boyd Iverson. For elk it's elknut. Both have made major changes in my game and have without a doubt positively affected my success.  :twocents:

Boyd Iverson gets my vote I found a copy at my local library and I know you can find one at yours too.
Whatever........

I have that one as well. "Trophy Blacktails The Science of the Hunt" by Scott Haugen was the first BT book I picked up and the things I learned from it I say is what helped me harvest deer since. It is a good read and he presents it well. He shares stories and what works for him but wont really say anything is a dead set rule, haha, guess that means he really does know blacktails haha. "Hunting Blacktail Deer" by John Higley is a good one too. Cameron R. Hanes has a lot of good info in his book and DVD as well. I was so glad when I was able to start finding these books and such considering a lot of the folks I have hunted with are the drive the roads and just sit on clearcut hoping to get lucky types.

First I've heard of it! Sounds like a good read though! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for a copy of my own!
