I don't know about the rifle rounds.  Winchester still makes a "silvertip" which uses the black coating with a Nosler Ballistic tip in a nickel case.  I guess the black coating isn't as scarry in a rifle.   :dunno:

One I have seen on here every-once-in-awhile is the Winchester "Black-Talon" pistol ammo was outlawed because it either was too deadly or shot through bullet proof vests.......  The truth is Winchester just re-branded it as "Ranger" ammo and sell it to this day without the black coating.

what about the rifle caliber Black Talon/FailSafe bullets...They were kinda like the illigitimate love child of a Nosler Partition and a Barnes Tripple Shock...What killed off those in the marketplace????

My reloads are all as close to 100% as anything is going to be.  I don't have a problem using them for defense.  I do chamber check everything with the pistol's chamber (not a SAMMI chamber checker) though.

That's right.

I have seen some guys who reload, I would never run their reloads through my pistol, let alone try to defend myself with them.  Reliability is a much better reason not to use reloads!

Now, If I need a pistol because someone is in the house running down the hall way at me with a cleaver, are reloads going to matter to a prosecutor?
Interesting.  I do reloads for my protection rounds because of increased reliability.  I get to inspect all the parts before assembly.  I've had a few misfires using commercial ammo in the past and that is one main reason I started reloading.  Carried over from hunting ammo to defense ammo.

I disagree. When I reload I have less variation from round to round  and tighter quality control. therefore I trust my rounds to be more reliable then a factory round.

I may or may not get flamed for this but here we go. There is no chance in heck I would ever carry those rounds in a pistol I would need to use in a self defense situation. The anit gunners and the jury would see you as a "hole saw" killing extremist. They are absurdly expensive and really just a gimmick. No thanks.

I basically said this in the other thread on these things.  You couldn't pay me to carry them in my defense pistol
